Good morning! This day in Disney history, Feb 5th, 1953. Peter Pan (based on James M. Barrie's 1904 story) opens @ the Roxy Theatre in New York City. Peter Pan was one of Walt Disneys' very favorite stories. Originally Walt had intended for Peter Pan to be his 2nd animated film following "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". But, ultimately it was Disneys' 14th animated feature film. Directed by Clyde Geronimi, Wilfred Jackson & Hamilton Luske. The film features the voices of Bobby Driscoll (as Peter) & Kathryn Beaumont (as Wendy Darling). Did you know Tink was based off of a real person? Indeed she was! Contrary to some rumors swirling around that Tinker Bell’s design was based on Marilyn Monroe, Tink was in fact drawn from the mannerisms, actions, & poses of the 22-year-old Margaret Kerry. (Pictured below along w/ the original movie poster). In addition, Margaret was the voice for the red-haired mermaid in the Neverland lagoon scenes. This will be the final Disney animated feature released through RKO, as Walt Disney will establish his own distribution company, Buena Vista Distribution, by the end of 1953. Have you seen this film? What is your favorite part? Who is your favorite character & why? As always, thanks for reading!

What a fantastic movie this was. Such adventure and playfulness. Wendy is pretty sweet and I liked how she also spoke Alice in Alice in Wonderland. I liked that they used the same actors. You didn't have to be a huge somebody to be a voice character back then. Thanks for the lesson today! - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.6 #42 11:12AM
Oh, and I love how it inspired such an awesome attraction at Disneyland. I have yet to be in front of it and hear the children playing in the nursery. - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.6 #42 11:14AM
To be a voice character on a Disney movie would be epic! I can't wait to buy my copy on DVD. Lets go on this attraction together your next trip. 😊You must hear those cute voices outside! - Duchess_SMK  3294.4 #11 1:17PM
Sounds fantastic to me!! - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.6 #42 1:28PM

Aww. How cute :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.6 #42 2:42PM

My absolutely favorite Disney classic film! Thank you, Duchess, for this wonderful history lesson! It's so nice to learn things about Disney people and movies that we didn't know before. I just love the music in this movie. When I hear it, I don't know why, but it just brings me back to my childhood with very warm feelings, and I just really want to watch the movie again! In fact, I think I will put this on this afternoon when my little one is home from school. The perfect post-Disneyland treat! Thank you!! - meridafan  1038.9 #83 12:36PM

"And he would've had you by now, Captain, if he hadn't swallowed that alarm clock. But now, when he's about, he'd warn you, as you might say, with his tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock." - Duchess_SMK  3294.4 #11 1:21PM
Ok, I love when Peter Pan makes Captain Hook say, "I'm a cod fish!", but my mostest, bestest, favoritest character is Tinker Bell!!! Did you know that Tink doesn't speak a word in the film? And thank you for spelling her name properly.. with 2 words! I did know about the Marilyn Monroe rumor. That always puzzled me. Tink looks nothing like her. Another fond memory is when Tink is showing Captain Hook the way to Peter Pan's hideout using ink and walking on his map, she makes a path of tiny foot prints. Or how about when Michael repeats back what John says... but in simpler terms. So many good parts of this movie. Thank you again SMK for a Disney History classic! You're awesome! - MyPark  944.4 #92 11:17AM
and with all the tinker bell films and popularty I would love to see disney do an animated versions of tinkerbell meets peter pan - pikarich  616.3 #177 11:25AM
You thanked duchess for spelling Tinker Bell correctly but you misspelled it! Sorry, I just had to point that out, it made me giggle - Philliprocks  277.4 #756 12:01PM
I know.. I erased an L by mistake. And for some reason, the Edit function is not functioning. - MyPark  944.4 #92 12:01PM

I havnt either - Hendizl  1313.0 #61 11:21AM
WHAT? Peter Pan's Flight must make no sense then... LOL! - MyPark  944.4 #92 11:21AM
Rick and Hendizl !!!??? Really?! You were deprived as children I tell you! 😩 Hope you both get to see it soon! - Duchess_SMK  3294.4 #11 1:25PM
And because the rights was donated away to the gosh so many variations of peter pan have emerged in many media platforms and plays. There has been expanded storylines outside of disney where he let neverland and grew up (Hook) or how peter pan and neverland came to be in Neverland a tv series. Peter pan is so popular that seven bronze statues are shown in public art one is in Texas-Info by wikipedia. Disney's peter pan is adorable and witty and a sequal peter pan 2 with wendy's daughter continues disneys version. Our Peter pan attraction in dl is the shortest of the resort attractions at about 45 seconds and the blocks inside the nursery do change to spell peter pan,I think disney and there one other.in average the attraction rarely under 30 minutes but it a fun ride they are alot of secrects in this attraction like it uses the most led light for the star and I read there a hidden mickey in the london room bt I have never seen it . - pikarich  616.3 #177 11:22AM
It's a silloette of Mickey walking- on the tower of Big Ben :) - WendyLVSNana  45.7 #3849 11:33AM
