I have never experienced disneyland with children. My sister in law, who has never been to disneyland, just called and asked my hubby and I to join her and her 4 children, two boys: 7 and 9, and two girls: 11 and 6, at disneyland this summer for 4 days. Any suggestions for me and my hubby. We have been to disney many times, but never with kids. And especially since this trip is probably going to be the only trip for my sis in law and nieces and nephews for a long time.

How exciting! Kids are sooooo fun at the park! But just be aware they go at a much different pace than adults. Also, their food and drink needs may be different than yours. Summer will be busy... so bring patience along with the kids. You'll need it. Also be prepared that you may not be able to visit many of the attractions you would like. I could not say for sure, but based on the ages of the children, you may have the 9 and 11 yr olds wanting to ride attractions that the 4 and 6 yr olds can't or don't want to ride. Try to make deals, like if the older ones spend a little time in Fantasyland, then the adults will be sure to take them to Adventureland for some more exciting things! One thing I always make sure of while with children at the park is to keep in mind it is mainly their time. They will do whatever the adults decide, so I make my decisions based on what would make the kids visit the most memorable and magical. Have an awesome time! - MyPark  943.6 #91 4:00PM
We've been taking our girls since they were two and three months old respectively. I think the key to a great trip is breaks during the day. Ride several rides in the morning, and then relax for a bit with a snack or beverage, or just take it easy on a bench for a while. It may mean you won't do quite as much stuff, but you will have much happier kids (and parents)! Plus a slower pace gives you the chance to really soak in the atmosphere of the resort! - cmogo  38.5 #4034 4:29PM
I love going with kids. It brings out the kid in me way more than just going with my boyfriend. To see a child almost tear up when they see their favorite princess or how they are in awe of the parades and shows just makes me tear up. - DisneyRose  240.8 #1096 3:56PM
be patient, slow down, have fun. - MrMom626  1461.5 #53 3:56PM
Yes, patience is a must. I would suggest planning your trip which you can do on the website by reading about which rides are must do for all of you. Try the search function to pull up other posts about "first time visits" or "must do". Have fun! - MrsSchnooks  565.6 #194 4:05PM
Take a backpack full of various snacks or a wallet full of money. You pick. They will want everything they see. But I have such a blast watching my daughter take it all in and she's only 2. - TangledsDad  192.7 #1717 4:17PM
It's a different experience at a much slower pace. Enjoy their enjoyment and you too will be having fun - MarshaMouse  2834.6 #15 4:24PM
My husband and I are in the same boat. We are going with his sister, bro-in-law and the 3 girls for the first time the wk of Feb 14. I know it will be a different experience. I am looking forward to going a different pace and maybe going on different rides than normal (and eating more junk!!) - JoshnSandy  42.8 #3903 6:04PM
We took my nephew when he was 7, and it was awesome! I really recommend playing "Eye Spy" and other fun games to keep them occupied in long lines. - anirina  64.6 #3485 10:27PM
