Good afternoon! This day in Disney history, Jan 17th, 1913. Disney Legend, Imagineer & artist/color stylist Claude Coats is born in San Francisco, Ca. During his 54 year career with Disney, Coats created the stunning, watercolor background paintings featured in Pinocchio. These continue to be heralded by Disney scholars, fans & art collectors for the rich & textured beauty they add to the animated film. His work can also be seen in "Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs," "Fantasia," “Dumbo,” “The Three Caballeros,” “Song of the South,” “Cinderella,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Peter Pan” & "Lady and the Tramp.” Coats also created the backgrounds for POTC & HM. In fact, there is a HM tombstone which reads: "At Peaceful Rest Lies BROTHER CLAUDE PLANTED HERE BENEATH THIS SOD" have you seen this tombstone? Are you a fan of Coats' work?
