By request of the Anaheim Fire Dept, POTC is equipped with a system that, in the event of an actual fire, automatically shuts down the authentic "burning town" effect found at the end of the ride, so that firefighters can pinpoint the real blaze and not waste time battling artificial flames.

One time my wife and I were on POTC and we got to experience it. The attraction was running and the burning town was all dark. Pretty weird to see that. - santeemouselover

i will say the "burning town" effect is soooo awesome and looks authentic! This effect should be used to an Opera production,,,, example is the finale of Wagner's Gotterdammerung, when the Gibichung Hall and Valhalla was consumed by fire after the sacrificial death of Brunhilde (sorry, just watching and listening to an Opera right now, for relaxation) - otilegna
