Ugh, accidentally posted first to WDW so let me try again . . . We are driving down from the bay area in early February taking I-5 and want to know the best way to avoid the LA traffic, which we always seem to hit. Last time we stayed on 5 and getting through LA was horrible. Coming down I-5, is there a better way to scoot around LA and avoid the traffic? Thanks

Well there is many ways...it goes around rather than a direct route to the parks but chances are less traffic and even carpool lanes to help. I rarely take the 5 myself and I live in LA. Anything that connects to 57 is good, whether the 210, 10 or 60 fwy. I prefer 60, seems like less traffic usually and a carpool lane helps. From there take 57 south and exit ball turn east and follow ball to structure area or take Katella all the way down. - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 8:55PM
I'm with linzee, I use that app so much and I avoid red or orange. - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 8:56PM
I agree, also depends on time of day, I try to drive long distances at night though that does not help always. The 210 seems to be less traveled past the 605 but you do go farthest out of your way on that one. I usually take the 60 also coming from LA area, though from the southbay lax area the 105 to the 605 to the 91 maybe but the 91 can be the worst of all. - secretagentangel  4658.3 #28 9:13PM
Everybody has their own way...but we use Sigalert.com as soon as we hit Magic mountain and avoid the orange and red freeways, we sort of on the fly detour and bypass heavy areas. We used to sit in the crazy 5 traffic for hours, not anymore, the iPhone pays for itself yet again. - Linzee  1188.1 #146 8:52PM
I live in CenCal and also take the 5, but download the app Waze if you can! It automatically updates the route you use to make travel time as little as possible! Great for avoiding traffic πŸ˜ƒ - michelIe  422.1 #525 9:09PM
This is what we use too. Posted below. Such a great app! - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  448.9 #490 9:41PM
The 5 is always bad no matter what time of day. Sometimes it's better to take the 405 S to the 22 East and exit on Euclid. Go North to Ball if you want to go to the Mickey and friends parking structure then make a right. - JediKitty  1061.4 #171 9:26PM
Our fav way from NorCal is 5 south, 405 South, 22 East, off @ Harbor - misschurro  6361.2 #17 8:45PM
P.S. we make this drive 5-7x a year - misschurro  6361.2 #17 8:47PM
Never tried this route. We always just take the 5 straight through. - LaPearleNoir  1789.4 #94 8:50PM
Hmmm, maybe I will try next weekend! Thanks! - TinkerSchelle  1981.1 #81 8:56PM
Then, on the way home (wahhhh) 22North dumps into 405North, which dumps into 5North. Love! - misschurro  6361.2 #17 9:01PM
Okay-I gotta remember where this post is for the future!🏁 - TinkerSchelle  1981.1 #81 10:07PM

Download Waze in the App Store. It uses live traffic monitoring along with posts from other users to find you the quickest way to your destination. We used it last time we wer in LA when there was an accident on 5 that caused an hour delay. We got to Disneyland in record time. It contstantly recalculats your route and speaks turn by turn directions. Life saver. - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  448.9 #490 9:38PM
Fly. Then shuttle. - Waites4DodgerEars_CM  1002.5 #188 8:54PM
Not that I know of. LA always has traffic, just try and time it so you come earlier in the day before 5 pm and it shouldn't be horrible. Have a wonderful trip! - tiggertwin  331.9 #736 8:56PM
Yeah I would think the 10 would be quicker and you could then take the 605 to the 5 because then you aren't too far from the carpool lane on the 5. But like everyone else is saying, you won't know until you check the traffic. I always wind around the 5 down there at the last minute because you never know what you will find. Plus it depends what time you are passing thru LA. Hope you have quick and safe travels! - WifeofaCM  208.5 #1890 9:01PM
We live in Concord and if we leave by 5-5:30 A.M you will avoid it all - Luv-Mickey  27.9 #6192 9:05PM
The best way to avoid LA traffic is to not come at all!! But that would mean no Disneyland and that thought is depressing. 210 to 57 is a good option a bit more mileage but less traffic - Deltachiq  1228.0 #139 9:08PM
thank you all so much for the suggestions and the apps! With the phone, the apps and a map we'll do our best! - Dawnsharks  124.7 #3136 8:40PM
Leave super early.. Every time we go to DL we leave like 4am to beat most traffic and we always call hotel on the way to make sure we can check in early if we get there early otherwise we fart around downtown disney or go to target till they let us check in cause usually you cant check in till like 10 or 11. Good luck! - MiniMommaAmant  6.3 #15281 8:46PM

That's what we did this past summer. (Not the farting around tho. Hahaha.) Left around 4 am and went 5 the entire way. Not bad at all! - MeridaFan  4243.7 #34 9:45PM
Yeah, best thing to do is avoid commute hours (best time is between 11am and 2:30pm). Or travel on a Saturday or Sunday morning. - KylaShea  632.7 #319 8:49PM
Like they said the earlier the better because 5 is the most direct and fastest with no traffic, however what we do when we leave late to the park from here in LA we do 5 to the 10san bernardino to the 710LB to the 91 east get in the carpool lane and stay on the back to the 5 you can on that lane until the Disneyland exit, we use this route all the time it moves. 710 has carpool also. - chorizo11  110.6 #3421 8:49PM
Fly. 😜 - SueBayou  2019.0 #78 9:26PM
If I leave from Sacramento at around 8 9 or 10 at night it takes me 6 hours to get to Anaheim and I only hit traffic if there is road work or an accident. If my map program shows traffic in LA then I'll divert to the 210 to 57. - MrsMears  217.1 #1772 9:38PM
$69 fares right now from SW! That's what we're doing beginning of February. Can't wait! Book by Sunday though for cheapest rates! - MeridaFan  4243.7 #34 9:41PM
I only ever hit bad traffic if I'm driving down on a Friday afternoon. YUCK. The earlier you can drive down the better and avoid commute hours. If you are using a gps a lot of them have the option to avoid high traffic areas. Good luck! :) - Jillian  767.1 #244 9:48PM
Did you get any responses on the WDW side? - philliprocks  1319.2 #132 10:03PM
I tried to respond but then it got cut off.... - brodysmommy  430.5 #508 10:37PM
just get a cheap Motel 6 room or something for the night before and leave NorCal around 5pm. get a good nights sleep then start early at the Park. That is usually what we do. Either way..good luck! - yellowtonka  244.7 #1419 10:16PM
