Question!Northern Cali drivers going up this crazy week: two years I went up for New Years eve and on the way back I had to detour to the 101 due to snow on the grapevine. Took us 16 hours to get home. Being said that, is there gonna be a lot of traffic going up? We thinking of driving down Monday morning maybe Sunday. Any tips or suggestions?
I'd just keep checking the Caltrans website and make the call right before you leave. 101 only takes an extra hour or so (from where we live in the East Bay). We've been half way down on 5 and the grapevine closed, thankfully it opened back up by the time we got there, but with the 30mph we were driving, 101 would have been just as fast and not as dangerous. - Linzee

We had that happen to us to! It look us like 12 hours to get to San Jose because of the grapevine snow! Hopefully that doesn't happen again this year, we are driving down Monday also, and normally it is not that crazy! - MagicalMadMadam

Also download the app Waze. It shows real time traffic updates posted by people in the community. It's been pretty accurate for me so far. - ZeeAlice

I love Waze! Only problem I've had with it is it's tried sending me down streets that don't exist before. But then that was in the desert when I worked APS. Otherwise in civilization it's great haha the fun part is during holidays when you get road goodies and collect points. It's also backed by ABC7 - KissDclown 1088.1 #77 7:19AM
