Although this is not Directly Disney related I feel I need to share my experience with you. I am a smartphone addict. However on our most recent trip to the park I left my phone unattended in my stroller as I wisked my sons to the restroom. A couple hours later strange messages were being sent to my phone and it continually said it was roaming. Sooo after talking to verizon apparently my account has been cloned and is being used in BOLIVA!!!... I have $1700 in charges and a brand new phone I cannot use!!... So all of you DROID users make sure not to leave your phone out or unattended .. apparently my SIM card was duplicated and swapped and sold and re-sold and is still being sold as we speak. They now have access to my bank info.. Facebook.. etc... Please don't be a lazy person like me and leave your stuff unattended! I don't want this to happen to anyone else!

The first thing to do when you realize your phone is lost/stolen is to call your wireless company and report it lost/stolen. Once you report it, the phone is suspended so the person who finds it cannot run up your bill. If you were in contract at the time the phone was lost/stolen, you would still be responsible for monthly recurring charges, such as your rate plan and features, even if you weren't physically using the phone. - DisneyDavidEMT  452.0 #272 2:45PM
Doesn't sound like she lost it - Linzee  517.7 #225 2:52PM
thats why I said lost/stolen. - DisneyDavidEMT  452.0 #272 3:02PM
How do they have ur bank info if they copied ur sim? I'm an iPhone user so I'm curious I'd the hard drive and sim are somehow incorporated - dsmdanny  139.7 #2447 2:51PM
Think of the SIM card like a memory card. It has your phone service and account stores on it. Your contact numbers, and any other stuff that you use. Kind of like a back up hard drive. It also allows you to take your sim card out and put it in another phone, an your data isn't lost. - Sugarbuzz  45.5 #3851 3:52PM
That's just crazy!! Thanks for sharing your story - Linzee  517.7 #225 2:53PM
Thank you for taking the time to write this so other people will be aware or this. I'm sorry you had this happen to you and hopefully the phone company worked with you and everything is ok now - Queenof2princesses  254.7 #966 3:16PM
So sorry that happened to you....hope it all gets straightened out soon - cdeley  393.0 #342 3:22PM
My phone wasnt stolen.. It looked perfectly fine! They just popped off the back and swapped the cards. It shows verizon where the phone used and I am surely not in Boliva! - 3lilmouseketers  83.3 #3238 3:44PM
Ah, misunderstood that part. Nonetheless, the SIM card was stolen, so if this were to happy to someone else the best and immediate thing to do is still notify your carrier. - DisneyDavidEMT  452.0 #272 3:57PM
The SIM card apparently allows them total access to anything I have done or stored on my phone. For exmaple bank accounts.. Facebook.. Instagram etc. I even got a call from the Facebook fraud dept. - 3lilmouseketers  83.3 #3238 3:46PM
I didn't think Verizon used SIM cards. So that's a new lesson for me. I looked up SIM card cloning, and according to google the duplicating device can be bought for as little as $10. Once you reported it, was Verizon able to deactivate the SIM card? - Sugarbuzz  45.5 #3851 3:48PM
And the worst part of this is that many of us would not think the sim was stolen, just our phone acting wonky. so thanks so much for the post, you never think if you left something somewhere, and it seems fine, thieves could still have messed with it. Thanks again for the post!! - secretagentangel  670.0 #154 4:02PM
Verizon is having trouble clearing it. Because even if I open a new account it is linked to the social which is linked to the SIM card. However they did say this is they highest growing form of identity theft! So unless I cancel and change carriers I am out of luck :( - 3lilmouseketers  83.3 #3238 8:10PM
This is disturbing! I am paranoid about my phone! It stays in my front pocket and I check often. I put it in my purse to go to the bathroom or to go on a ride. I have an iPhone though which doesn't have a SIM. - Autoalice  135.7 #2511 9:54PM
It does have a sim. We were shocked. - Linzee  517.7 #225 10:14PM
Really?!? Dang! Even more reason to be paranoid with it! - Autoalice  135.7 #2511 12:00AM
Wow! I am sorry to hear this. But thank you for sharing. I had no idea about this type of theft. - RadiatorSprings4Ever  136.7 #2495 11:56PM
so sorry to hear that :0( thank you for sharing. - OhanaPhoto  1414.4 #56 12:26AM
