It is elbow to elbow and lines are long but OMG!! It is the most fun! They do the countdown then an amazing fireworks show at midnight. We've been going for years now and will be going again this year. A couple years have been so foggy you couldn't see a thing. I haven't been to Disneyland on New Year's Eve. What I really want to see is California Adventure's New Year's World of Color in person, the one from 2011 looked amazing from what i saw on youtube. It was too foggy to see anything for the 2012 one. - rbeezy  664.0 #164 8:19PM

Heads up for dl for new years eve. Their are people that travel from miles around. Get their when the park opens and sit in front of the castle all day, so by the time the fireworks come around vantage points are very few and far apart and did i forget the mention the ride times.
