Good afternoon! This day in Disney history, Dec 18th, 1998. McDonald's opens a french fry stand inside Disneyland.
"Conestoga Fries" was near the spot where guests had boarded the old Conestoga Wagons ride in the 1950s. The canvas top that proclaimed “Westward Ho!” was a nod to the old ride. However, the restaurant wasn’t one of the original Conestoga Wagons; it was just a creatively designed fast food structure.
Do you miss McDonalds in the park? Or are you glad it's gone?
Not a fan. I am also not a fan of bringing Starbucks into magic kingdom. Too common , both McDonald's and Starbucks could be found on any corner USA. Disneyland should be unique and has the success to be so. - polo33

One would argue that most products sold in Disneyland are very common. According to your argument maybe Disney should start their own line of soft drinks and eliminate the partnership they have with Coke as well. Coke can be found at any Grocery store and liquor store and gas station. Most of the partnerships in Disneyland are more about Americana not their how common they are. Whats more American than Mc Donald's? Whats more American than Starbucks? Whats more American than Coke? The fact is these companies are about heavily sown into the fabric of America. What better place to enjoy some of these items then a place that celebrates America? - vincentchase 636.8 #168 8:29AM

Wasn't the phrase "Westward Ho!" from the Disney film made in the 1950s? Ironically, the phrase stuck because there was a pin cart, also named Westward Ho! that helped start pin trading in the park around 2001. And then was carried over to the now "Westward Ho! Trading Post store in Frontierland about 5 years ago - BaseballMickey_CM

McDonalds and Disney had a partnership. Basically it was McD's helped Disney promote their newest films through their Happy Meals while Disney sold McD's products on their property. - BaseballMickey_CM 2813.6 #16 1:53PM

Actually, during the mid to late '90's I was not living in California. During those years I was in Florida and went to WDW. So I don't remember ever eating $3.00 french fries there. I do have fun memories many years ago eating fries at Tomorrowland Terrace. I still like to get fries there sometimes. - MyPark

They had mcDonalds there too yes? Did you like having them in the park back then? - Duchess_SMK 3254.0 #11 6:08PM
Yes Tomorrowland Terrace was known for cheap food. My parents always ate cheap. I did not eat at the Blue Bayou until I was an adult. The fries were great at TT. - MyPark 943.7 #91 6:24PM

My friends and I had a ritual of getting on haunted mansion at dusk, texting fries and a soda and wait for fantasmic. Good ol days. I think these fries always tasted better than regular McDonald's fries. Got to be that magic dust. - TikiJOSEsWingman

and this wasn't the only location that sold the mickey d fries, the second location was at the harbor gallery.when you walk by the picture with the fisherman that says eat at the gallery it use to say catch some mickey d fries or something similiar. ironically when mcdonalds ended their disney contract they tried to stay in a theme park up in valencia and failed even though they offered the meals it was so overpriced . - pikarich

The thing I liked most about this cart was that it wa not a massive Mcdonalds golden arches eye sore. It fit in really well and now that it's gone, the space it occupied seems empty to me. I know people enjoyed it which is why it was great. Personally I don't eat fries unless it's steak fries or potato wedges - dsmdanny
