Good morning! This day in Disney history, Nov 12th, 1946. Walt Disney's "Song of the South" is released by RKO & debuts at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, Georgia. The film, based on the books by Joel Chandler Harris, is Walt's first major plunge into live-action filmmaking (although it also contains animated segments). The premiere is sponsored jointly by the Atlanta Junior League and the Uncle Remus Memorial Association. (The film & its songs will later provide the inspiration for the Splash Mountain attractions at Disney theme parks.) The hit song from the film was "Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah", won the 1947 Academy Award for Best Song. Have you seen this film?

Love this movie, one of the greats! I still have the music on an original vinyl Disney record, that we pull out and listen to :). Our movie broke a number of years back(VHS) and we were told by a CM that they do not sell it anymore in the USA! My In-Laws were in England last year and brought home a copy!! - hatgal76  449.8 #489 9:17AM
One of our boys just returned from deployment from overseas. I should have asked him to see if he could find a copy. - Sugarbuzz  242.6 #1449 9:26AM

Yes, just saw it recently with my mini on YouTube. (Wish I had a copy...couldn't find one) - MissAmericaSings  405.8 #553 9:51AM
I couldn't get through this movie for some reason. - madsdad  1868.2 #92 9:51AM
I have the DVD...I got it at the San Diego Co. Fair a few years ago from a vendor who sells a variety of hard-to-find videos. I remember seeing it first as a child back in the 60's and my grandma explaining to me the non-pc parts and why they were considered unacceptable. I wish Disney would re-release it..it can be a great learning tool. - Gia  802.0 #231 10:15AM
I have actually watch this. Another funny thing since Zip-a-dee-do-dah was in that movie. I didn't remember that.... We have a 6-Flags here that plays that song like crazy. - dimplesdanie  1236.9 #138 10:27AM

^^indeed! Crazy that it took us this long! Lol - Duchess_SMK  6340.7 #18 11:56AM
Love this movie. I have a DVD copy as well. Saw it for first time in the theater (early 80's). This movie should be totally restored and released. Spare no expense! With all the new technology for restoration, this movie would look awesome! They could easily make the animation fade-ins into 3D. - mightymike  272.8 #1140 10:33AM
Now THAT would be neat! ::sigh:: probably not possible though. With its current status as being viewed as "politically incorrect". - Duchess_SMK  6340.7 #18 12:00PM
Thanks to YouTube I was able to view this beautiful movie. My daughter lived it also. I really don't get the contraversial over this movie. Excellent!! - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  1143.5 #155 10:37AM
Oh man I use to watch this every single morning during summer at my Nana's house! - AshleyLynn22  791.2 #233 10:59AM

Thank you for sharing! I was hoping to hear some Disney history today! Also, this day in 1980, I was born. My parents were told I was going to be a boy and when I came out- surprise! πŸ˜ƒ - Vegan7LuvsStitch  1026.3 #178 7:22PM
I saw this in theater when I was young but not when it was first released since I wasn't alive then. It must have had a rerelease in the 70's. Finally got to see it again this year. - MamaRoo  466.7 #465 8:46PM
No matter the period of time it was made, I think it was a unbelievable film because of the blending live action with cartoon. They were still showing it theaters when I was kid in Saturday matinees. Thanks for bringing it to us.  - Midasgold  633.3 #318 8:47PM
Love this! - HiddenMickeyFanatic  1247.8 #136 8:54PM
I have this movie on a Japanese import laserdisc. I haven't watched it for some time now. Need to bring it out to show the kids. I really wish they would give this movie a proper release. - Autoalice  161.4 #2545 9:52PM
 I miss this movie... - BombFrogFormerCM  1015.8 #183 10:39PM
