CHALLENGE!!! So I just went to Disneyland in Aug. and had heard that there was a spider stuck to the glass in the haunted mansion ballroom scene. The story is some kid with a
Sling shot hit the glass and left a big crack in it. The glass was too expensive to replace so they stuck a spider over the crack. I guess the story is true because I totally saw it. If you don't focus on the festivities below and try to focus on the glass in front of you, wich is hard because you can barely see the glass, about halfway through the ballroom scene you can spot a spider floating in mid air. It is in the middle and toward the bottom. See if you can find it! Let me know if you do!!
The truth is chuck Norris sneezed while he was in the ride .... I heard it from Walt himself ..✋ - TINO

This is the story I was told when I was lucky enough to get a backstage tour of haunted mansion. There are crisply three panes of glass right there and the cracked on is the middle one. The middle pane is a different kind of glass that is incredibly expensive an had to be lowered into place by a crane. Imaginears were told that were it to break it could not be replaced. Cut to sometime in the late 80's. Someone thought they would be cool if they snuck in a pellet gun and then shot through the glass on that scene. The pellet caused the first pain to shatter and got stuck in the second causing the crack. Knowing they weren't able to replace it they got creative and made our eight legged buddy. - lostgirl7988

That's way interesting. I'm happy others have seen it to. I had just found out about it. I thought it was a very interesting part of Disney history. :) - Belleslibrary 227.9 #1272 2:13PM
I've seen it. I believe it was a gunshot from back in the day though? I could be wrong but that's what I've heard - Nicole

I also read it was from a gun shot - LBChica 1500.2 #52 10:32AM
I've also seen this, it's pretty easy to spot if your looking for it. It is around eye level from your doom buggy. I believe it was caused by a pellet gun. - MightyWhitey

A guy shot the glass with a gun, not a sling shot and yes the glass is extremely expensive to replace so they added a fake spider to cover over it - CaptainPirateKalven

I heard a pellet gun in grad night a couple if years ago. I also heard the glass is a massive piece, and the only way to replace it is to slide it down from the roof. I don't know if that part of the ride is underground like other parts if the ride, but either way it is a challenge! - 7mouskedoodles

let me know if it works!! I'll be there in a few weeks too! Maybe we'll be there at the same time :) - Belleslibrary 227.9 #1272 2:16PM
If you are looking for it (I was literally just on the ride 20 minutes ago) toward the end of the ballroom scene before the Doombuggy turns for the attic. Count 2 pillars in from the wall. (The pillars separate the glass) it is at eye level on the right side of the second pillar. You see a large spider about the size of a hand and behind it large cracks which are supposed to be the 'web' - BlueberryCrusader

Also, note that the glass isn't directly behind the railing in front of you. Rather, it's set back a few feet. Once I figured that out it was easier to spot - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 2:39PM
They got the spider from a dollar store. 😱😂😂 - bluefairy
