I'm planning to go to DL with the family in mid December.
We will be staying overnight one night.
I have credit card points I could use to stay at the Grand CA or other DL hotel but its a lot of points ($485/night is the rate).
Across the street from DL the rate is only $150/night.
Would staying at the Grand this time of the year be worth the extra point cost?
The grand is GORGEOUS decorated for Christmas and the carolers sing by the tree at night. It's a wonderful way to end the night. However, you can still experience it and walk back to a cheaper hotel you just miss out on the maximum amount of magic. - cynDOLEwhip

And Santa is in the lobby too. And Xmas music and the lights. It is magical. Our annual Xmas stay here used to be our Xmas gift to ourselves (well not last year and this year). We will miss it! - PrincessDuckie 587.9 #187 6:03PM
It is a pretty awesome place. If you can afford it it is worth it. - Eraf61

Yes what they said! Especially if you are using points, then totally worth it! - ShariRenee

Don't forget the 17% tax on top of the room rate! We opted for the Paradise Pier this year due to the huge jump in price at all of the DLR hotels. We will wander thru the Grand & enjoy the ambience of the lobby on our way to and from the parks!! - NVDLfan

I think worth is very subjective. I mostly stay in non-Disney hotels since we go so often and quite frankly the Disney prices are outrageous IMO. But for certain reasons/occasions I splurge. This holiday season I got my first real vacation bid after over a year of working with no vacation, so I decided to go with PP view concierge room. Yes, it's triple what I would pay at a non-Disney hotel. But I kinda wanted to be immersed in the Disney magic for this trip, and I haven't stayed at PP yet, so it's worth it to me. - mouseprincess

Very good points mouseprincess. We usually stay at our hotel for around $50 a night but that allows us to go once or twice a month :) - MrsMears 212.1 #1452 6:09PM
Yes mouseprincess and MrsMears: I usually stay at for about $50 a night too that way I can stay two or three nights (about once a month) and still be able to dine nicely. - ShariRenee

Like others have said, we usually Priceline a hotel for $40-50 per night, but if we're going to splurge for a special occasion, it's to stay at the Grand. Yes, it's worth it (for us), but it takes budgeting and planning for months to make it happen. There's really nothing like being completely immersed in the Disney bubble, and having DCA literally in the Grand's backyard is truly a great experience. - Spoonful_O_Sugar
