Just curious...for all you past and present cm. Does Disneyland lose some "magic" once you work there or is it as "magical" as before you started working?
As a current CM speaking from experience, for a while the magic is lost, especially as you're trying to figure out the ins and outs of your job and how you fit in to the puzzle. Eventually, though, you rediscover the magic: whether by talking with a guest on their first visit, hearing a touching story, or actually being in the park as a guest and just observing. I work at Opera House and I love standing outside greeting guests and watching the character interactions nearby. I often end up tearing up because of how sweet the moment is or hearing parents say to their children for the first time that they're at Disneyland and "look! There's Mickey and Minnie!" You also have to remember that you help make the magic. If the magic disappears for you, maybe you have to go find that situation where you can help someone rediscover the magic as well. I love working at Disneyland. Although I've only held 2 other jobs in the past, this one is by far my favorite! - IDVandalSkipperCM

Awesome reply! I love that you tear up when observing magic moments of others! I think I would too! Keep up the great job! - jjdq 326.7 #490 12:36PM
I had to rediscover the magic through first time visitors of Carsland... My job was getting stale... Drama was rising... I managed to rekindle some of the magic by experiencing my land with first time visitors. Gotta find a way to keep the magic going. - BCC 4640.6 #5 12:50PM
Personally, I want to work there someday and honestly I don't mind if it loses some magic. As long as it means that I'm bringing magic to guests' trips, then it doesn't matter :) and I feel like that will keep the Disney magic alive for me. Guess it really depends on the outlook(: - AvidDisneyThrifter220

I agree with IDVandalSkipper. Yes, when first getting used to the job, the magic is gone, but after being apart of park, you discover it back in sometimes the obvious ways or in times when you didn't expect it. When working in merch, its fun to interact with the little kids and kneel down to their level to make them special when they're buying a plush or toy with their own money. Also, its fun to even have sword or gun fights in the middle of the store! And outside, just casually watching a character meet and greet or any show, its fun to see guests' faces light up in awe and amazement while I cross the street and ask myself "this is the place I work at?!" - BaseballMickey_CM

It's been a very long time since I was a CM, but I didn't feel that loss of magic one bit. It was a goal of mine to work there and I was determined to make the best of it. It was hard work (as is any type of customer service) and there were times I got frustrated, but I would do it again, if I could. Working at DL was the best 1st job - I learned so much, and much of what I learned I still use today. Learning some of the secrets and behind the scenes effects was fascinating to me and made me appreciate the magic even more. I was just as amazed of the uniqueness of DL then, as I am now. - Gia

I think learning about the effects would be amazing and make me way more appreciative Of the people who make the behind the scenes magic. Not that I don't already appreciate them - Minderella 261.6 #898 9:49AM
I know it's off topic but I just want to say "Thank You" to you CMs...you really make each trip memorable and I appreciate you all!! - MissAmericaSings

I think it depends on the person. When I worked there, it ruined everything for me for a while. I think I am one of the only people who did not enjoy working there. I would much rather be a guest! :) - Minnis2Society

Oh boy! Talk to entertainment costuming, or foods. They could start an anti-Disney club and fill up the convention center. For me, it would be better if management wasn't so bad. - AWholeNewWorld 253.7 #976 8:14AM
I wouldn't start an anti-Disney club and I had no problem with management. I just would rather not work there. It's more fun for me to visit and not know "everything". - Minnis2Society 360.0 #388 9:07AM
I don't work at Disneyland but a Disney store, I know it's totally different but working there loses some of its "wow" factor. You are more aware of guest issues and such which make it less magical - karaboo

I've worked at the stores and really enjoyed working with the guests and co-workers. But found it to hard to maintain 2 jobs and ended up quitting. - Minderella 261.6 #898 8:08AM
I was a CM for a short time. I was still a minor in high school but I loved it! I got a bit overwhelmed with school, I had another job too and I'd get scheduled against my availability a lot. Eventually my parents made me resign.. I had to call-in for prom, my bday, and graduation bc it didn't get approved even though I submitted it months in advance.. Kind of rough but I did love being a part of the magic and sometimes really wish I had toughed it out! I really enjoy being a guest now though and look back fondly at my time working there :) - SarahJoshDisney

Sometimes I still have moments where I go "wow, I can't believe I'm apart of this." For the most part, little has remained magical. I still love Fantasmic! but I don't work that venue, yet. - AWholeNewWorld
