On this day in 1954, Walt Disney debuts his television show series "Disneyland" with the first episode "The Disneyland Story". This show gave the people at home a chance to preview what Walt and his team were building in Anaheim. Walt, with his classic storytelling, gives a tour of the different lands of his park, with stories about the jungle, the frontier, and the land of tomorrow. But most importantly, he was one of the first to use television as a tool of communication and marketing to his future guests. He also decided to use Tinkerbell as a mascot of this show. He didn't use Mickey because he didn't want to associate failure with his mouse, in case this theme park idea didn't work out. And also on today in 1966, Walt Disney films a 25-minute television program about "The Florida Project". In this program, Walt tells the people at home about his plans of building a new park in Florida. This park will be large enough to have all of the creative ideas and innovations in one park, including a larger monorail system, resorts and even an airport. But the largest part of this program was the emphasis on EPCOT, the Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow. Walt went to explain that this futuristic community will always be using the latest technology and a showcase to the world. Unfortunately, this program was Walt's last public television appearance, before he passed on in December. To watch "The Disneyland Story":
