I haven’t posted in a long while, but I feel I must open up my heart to you all about a quandary I'm in. (Warning, this is going to be a bit wordy)
I’ve held an Annual Pass since 2006 and have progressively seen it’s value decline in the recent past. I didn’t think much about losing my picture on the pass until I started to have to bring out my ID for every purchase. Not a big deal, but it was a start. I even felt that the large price hike on my annual pass was (gritting my teeth) acceptable considering all that I got in my Disney experience.
I expect that in having a Premium pass that it promises access to the Disneyland Resort 365 days a year, but it feels like that access is getting chipped away at constantly.
With the addition of the Mickey’s Halloween Party as a pay extra event (even as cool as it is), the removal of the personalization of the napkins, the drink cups, and other packaging that helps you to be enveloped in the Disney environment I feel the dollars flowing in are more important than the experience for those who visit the parks.
As I tried to explain to a Disney representative: Let’s say you buy the car you’ve always wanted and you drive it and love it, and one day the dealership calls you to say that unless you pay extra there will be dates and times you will not be able to use this car you love so much....how does that sit with you? The representative spoke of the usual contractual fine print that states opening and closing times are subject to blah, blah, blah.... We all remember reading that part of the annual pass contract, don’t we?
I’ve since read a Miceage article by Al Lutz, titled “At Disneyland Christmas may be extra”. If you haven’t read this, you owe it to yourself to do so. http://tinyurl.com/cp5dr8r
This article details changes to the Disneyland Resort that are not so great. Just one small part of it is that your Fastpass will soon be held to that one hour window printed on it. You knew that, right?
I know that all of this seems like sour grapes, or perhaps all of this is old news, or maybe even irrelevant to all of you. But my visits to DLR are better than any therapy I could get in a doctor’s office to alleviate the stresses of the outside world and now I feel like I’m going to have all that spoiled by greed.
I apologize if this seems like a hate speech towards Disney. This is in no way directed towards any of the CMs, and please understand that I view this the same way I would view finding out someone I cared for deeply was stealing from me. I’m very disappointed.
All this being said, I’m now giving serious thought to allowing my annual pass to expire.
I would sincerely appreciate some feedback, good or bad. Maybe I can be shown something I’m missing looking through this dark cloud?
Have a Magical Day,
Taste Pilots Grill in DCA will reopen as Smokejumpers Grill on March 13 as apart of the new-themed area, Grizzly Air Field.
Attraction Closures: Critter Country (opens 4/3), Fortuosity Jewelry Shop (opens 3/13), Magic Eye Theater (TBD), Matterhorn (opens 5/16), Peter Pan (opens 5/8), Snow White Grotto (opens 5/1), Starcade (TBD), Soarin over California (opens 5/15), Grizzly River Run (opens 3/20), Luigi's Flying Tires (2016), World of Color (TBD).
unForecast Crowd Prediction: This week is the unofficial start of the Spring Break crowds, so expect the parks to be a little more crowded than normal. Also with only one showing of Fantasmic during the week, expect FPs for the show to go quickly along with it being crowded around the Rivers of America close to showtime. Throughout the week, expect CIs to be in the high 60s to low 80s for Disneyland Park and in the low 70s to low 80s for DCA.
