Being that these are treated as part of the park landscape, I'm sure they are sprayed with chemical systemics if any pest problems arise. That is the only reason I can think of that would make them unfit. - BambooMike  129.0 #2642 11:31PM

Systemic is much different... Topical sprays can be washed off with soap and water. Systemic which is the most easiest and most effective method of controlling pest and disease, is absorbed and is not allowed for use on produce intended for human consumption. However like I said with these treated as part of a landscape, I doubt they worry about anyone eating anything, and I'm sure chemical synthetics are used either directly or indirectly at some point.
