Good Morning! This day in Disney history, Sep 15th, 1958. The Disneyland Viewliner, a narrow gauge, miniature train running since June 1957, shuts down forever after only about 15 months. Billed as "the fastest miniature train in the world," it was the park's first attempt @ mass-transit. It was a streamlined train powered by an Oldsmobile V-8 “Rocket” engine. The tracks made a figure-eight trip around the northeast section of of DL. The Monorail System will take its place in June 1959. Does anyone remember this attraction?
That's so cool! I liked the part about the v8 "rocket" engine!! 😄 thanks for the amazing history as usual!! QC for sure! 😘 - CourtyAstroBlisters

Glad you enjoyed this! It was only around for about 15 months, so I think maybe that's why people hadn't heard much about it. thanks for taking the time to comment! 😘 - Duchess_SMK 3279.0 #11 8:06AM

Well gosh, thanks sweetie! 😘 - Duchess_SMK 3279.0 #11 8:44AM
Wow, never knew it had an Olds Rocket engine. I have seen old air raid sirens that used a Chrysler Hemi V8 before. I imagine the attraction was removed for when the Submarine Voyage, Motor Boat Cruise, and Monorail went in. - ScooterMike

That's fascinating. I wish that was still there. I only remember the sky people movers, I wonder why they got rid of that. - bearcatsmeow

There is a picture in the Opera House that shows the Viewliner with boats in the lagoon under it. Those boats would be the Motor Boat Lagoon which opened in 1957 as well. - IDVandalSkipperCM

Nope...don't remember this. It was too early for me! But I knew about it from hearing stories from others who do remember it! It's fascinating how Disney would break in ideas for mass-transit in a theme park! - Gia
