Is anyone else not renewing their passes due to the price hike? My grandsons and mine expire next month and I will have to wait until next year to renew. Do we know why the price went up so much!?
As long as I have a job and Disney has the payment plans I wi be renewing. My AP pass is the best investment I have made. All the wonderful Disney memories with my son and the wonderful fun trips with MWers is all worth it. - thestalkerNIN

Yes same here! And since we have premium ap its about $10 more a month added to each pass. So its not bad at all when ur on a pymnt plan :) - minniel0verβ’ 204.8 #1598 11:07AM
Payment plan is the way to go, expecially if you are paying for passes for an entire family - ScooterMike 1959.8 #37 11:18AM
I just don't think I go enough to justify the cost of the passes. Yeah right, I'm totally renewing. - ScooterMike

Bhahaha! I was gonna say, "what??" - LaPearleNoir 621.1 #179 6:04AM
My pass expired last wednesday but I had to renew. I prefer to cut out other costs than to give up Disney for a year. - MagicalLand

Ours expired last spring and we're going to wait awhile to renew, but that was our thought also. We can easily just cut out a few trips to Starbucks each week and make up the cost that way, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 439.1 #288 8:33PM
That was almost a deal breaker for us to .. But Disney is part of our lives of my kids childhood ... I rather cut out other stuff we make to many memories there :) however I called when it wa time to renew and they gave me last years price for this year only... If you renew before it expires.... Try and see if they are still doing that ;) - Pixielynn

We probably won't, we will go back to one trip a year. The cost of gas being the big reason as the drive from nor-cal is too far. - connielu
672.2 #161 8:35PM
Same here, we live in sac. Though we do enjoy having just one of us being an AP, then we don't miss out on the discounts! - disneymomma87 163.9 #2137 9:52PM
We're near Sac too and we're lucky if we make it once a year. Maybe someday we'll get APs. - Hesatalkintome 26.9 #4619 7:16AM
Live in the Sacramento area and am debating renewing my AP. Its a long drive and looking ahead at things upcoming next year I might not be able to make the same amount of trips down as I did this year so I am really going to have to crunch the numbers and look at the benefits of an AP before I renew it. - junglecruise80
3.7 #15386 10:04PM
You live in sac too? Yay! A MW in sac! Yea it's a long boring drive. I only got it this year because I knew I'd be going at least 5 times so it paid for itself :) only the half marathon trip planned for next year tho :( - disneymomma87 163.9 #2137 11:16AM
because they can ;) i'd say cars land was a huge reason. - OhanaPhoto
1578.5 #50 8:26PM
The reason was simply to make more money, lol. They will keep increasing because they know we will pay. - Spoonful_O_Sugar

Living in San Jose and not getting down there as much as I hoped, I couldn't justify renewing. Plus my hours were cut at work again. If I get the job I applied for with the Angels I will absolutely renew. - ythdudette

I had a pass for over 7 straight years but am putting off renewing for awhile because of financial reasons and the price hikes.. I'll see Carsland someday, hehe! Seeing pics in the lounge makes me feel like I'm not out of the loop :) - SarahJoshDisney

My AP expired last month & I was really bummed π. I won't be renewing it for another year because of financial reasons. Once I get back on my feet, I will renew my AP in a heart beat. - CaptainPirateKalven

Whenever I hear folks bring this up, they always assume it was caused because Disney wants to "thin the heard" of AP memberships. I think that's silly. They just went through a multi-billion dollar renovation and the price ALWAYS goes up. They already stated they did it cause they felt that they could do so, even in this economic hard times.
I won't take a year off. I did that last year. Now with things fixed, I'll be glad to go more often. - Dipper_Pines

I like your user name. It makes me laugh when I see it. - Sharkgrrl19 203.0 #1624 7:10AM
I hate that theory. There is no way Disney wants LESS people to have annual passes. They know people will be willing to pay more so they ask them to. - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #110 11:12AM
It always goes up, that is true. It went up a lot this time though. - connielu 672.2 #161 4:49PM
Give up my AP? That is at the very bottom of my downsize list, right under giving up food and shelter. Until I'm starving and homeless the AP is staying haha! ... We did actually consider waiting to renew for a good minute and a half before we realized Disneyland means too much to us to just give up. I feel for those of you unable to renew and I'm hoping our circumstances will allow us to continue with our APs. - makingmemories

Renew! If you live close enough to enjoy it I say go for it! For us just a few days in the park would cost us a few grand at least! (We have to fly there) we live too far away. - MJmouse

We are dropping the passes after they expire - the price hike makes the monthly tab for a family of 6 more than we can handle, plus the kids are reaching a stage where there are other things they want to see and do. We will still be coming down for the Half Marathon weekend, and possible a short trip during Xmastime, but we will take advantage of package deals through work or AAA or something- be kinda cool to get things like Magic Morning again. - kilteddispatcher
337.6 #455 7:25AM
We won't renew for a year only because my husband wants to explore the great outdoors. The price hike only means we have to not eat out a few times and that should cover it. - Linzee
533.3 #218 8:06AM
We aren't renewing. My kids expired this summer and mine expires next month. We live in NorCal so we can't afford the passes and travel expenses. Unfortunately that also means we'll be back to only visiting dl once or twice a year:( - supertracy

We were fortunate to renew last week. Due to hubbys health I almost didn't but he told me to go for it. We are retired in NorCAL above Sacramento but its easier and cheaper for us just to go just two "old" folks. - sewgirl
340.5 #444 9:11AM
It is much cheaper when it is just me and the mrs. - connielu 672.2 #161 4:51PM
If you renew before they expire you don't need to put any money down. And just make monthly payments. - maxinerenton
415.5 #319 9:14AM
I feel so fortunate to have had AP for the past 12 years. They were $99 then and I only had 3 to buy. Now we are 5 and it's a lot even with SoCal Select. It's worth it to us. Such great memories. - HalfCaff

*Sigh* I really tried to not renew but I made plans and my kids' passes don't expire until Feb. so I sorta had to. I'm just going to try to go less often. - 559MickeyLover

It just depends if it's cost efficient or not. An Annual pass pays for itself if you are going at least two times. - madsdad

We can't decide...We're getting married next December and so we're thinking about not renewing, passes expire in January, and getting APs for our first year of marriage...But I just don't know if we can handle no DL for almost a year :/ - disneykimmi

This is the first year we've had APs. I bought them in March, and we've used them for several days that month, then again in May, and have another trip planned in October. The biggest two issues for me is that we live in Arizona, and even though it's not nearly as far as many people travel, we haven't been able to make as many trips as I was hoping to. The second problem is that out-of-Cali people can't do payments. If I could do payments, I'm pretty sure I'd renew, but I'm not sure if I can do it in one big chunk. At least I have until March to decide.... - jmgphx

I hope I can renew after the first of the year. My finances just can't make even with payments. I have been a pass holder since 1991 so this will be hard to do - deppfan

We're going to pass on the passes this year. We are planning a christmastime trip to WDW next year so we need to save our pennies! I don't know if we can do it though; a year is a long time with no Disneyland! - minigirl1156

Have one adult get the premier pass so you get the discounts in both parks and maybe go for the lesser passes for the rest of you family - Plumiegirl 3503.0 #11 6:58PM
And I think that you cant pitch an increase of nearly %50 as a normal annual price increase. I accept that prices slowly creep up year by year but jumping from $300 or so to over $500 was ludicrous. My family was already bringing cooked breakfast and dinner food to eat at the hotel before and after entering the park so that we could afford to go. This last increase is the straw that will break a lot of the proverbial camel's backs - kilteddispatcher
