If I use the DM feature, does the person I message have to be on Mouse Wait at the time or will they get the message when the log on?

When someone DMs me and I'm offline as soon as I turn on my IPod it tells me. Then I go to MW and notifications to read and reply - E-Ticket 772.1 #128 6:39AM
