If you want to make an old style kilt, it's pretty easy. You need to find wide fabric that will wrap around. Then you hold it together with a belt at the waist. The length of the fabric just gets twisted and comes over the shoulder. In ancient times the kilt was used as a blanket, as a towel, and a cloak for warmth.
