Good morning! This day in Disney history, Sep 4th, 1997. "The Spirit of Pocahontas," performed @ the Fantasyland Theater in Disneyland, gives its final performance after nearly a two & half year run. The show opened on June 23, 1995. The stage was modeled after a sacred ceremonial ground in the Virginia forest. Do you remember this show? Here is a link to more info : http://is.gd/2yYE9J to make the link "clickable" on the app version, click detail on the bottom of this thread. :)
I loved this show! As did my daughter who was 5-7 yrs old during the show's run. We saw it every time we went, sometimes more than once a day! And it's true...there were a lot of injuries! The stage was built on an angle (sloped down towards audience) to allow a different view for the audience. This created an unnatural surface for the actors/dancers to move on and there were lots of twisted and broken ankles. I remember one show in particular where Pocahontas went down and still did the rest of the show, but limped through it. - Gia

little CM insider info: This show was known as "the spirit of BROKE-ahontas" because so many of the entertainment cm's were hurt during it's production which was part of the reason it was pulled from the parks. - TIdoubleGuhErCM

Even though this was informative to the audience, most of the dancers were not native Americans. Although, southern ca.has many indigenous tribes Disneyland could have hired to make the show more culturally correct. I'm Cherokee/Choctaw. - oceanfan90

Wow, I absolutely remember this, as it was my daughter's favorite thing at DL! She was 2 when this debuted and has been obsessed with Pocahontas ever since the movie came out. We have many tapes of her watching this show, since she was so enthralled with it and I'm going to have to watch them again to see if any of them have Idina as Pocahontas. Brings back a world of wonderful memories... thank you! 😃 - Nala
