let's start a different type of get to know each other post. what was your major in college? if you weren't able to finish, what we're you planning on going for?

I'm an Integrated Educational Studies major, with a double-minor in English and Women's Studies. I just started my second year of college. - BelleintheTARDIS  258.8 #1190 11:26PM
What exactly is integrated educational studies? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 11:47PM
It's Education, but it can't be called that in the state of California for some reason I always forget. So really, I'm an Education major. - BelleintheTARDIS  258.8 #1190 12:07AM
California is always trying to do things different and complicate things. - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 12:14AM
In the state of CA you have to major in what you want to teach or pass the required tests in order to be a teacher. That would be my guess as to why there are no (or few) education majors in CA. - LilSterner  4885.4 #19 10:33PM
BS in anthropology and an emphasis in chemistry and math Now hopefully going for a masters in public health, med school, or an archaeological excavation in mexico/yucatan - CarpeNoctem025  18.7 #6933 12:25AM
Currently in college working on my bachelors(BSN/ RN) - Hendizl  2624.4 #41 12:34AM

I earned my AS in Administration of Justice, after earning my major I wasn't enthusiastic in working in the field of justice. I went in to the Entertainment Industry and became a Background Actor. I really enjoyed being on different sets, portraying different characters and being on TV!!! I will now pursue my BS in Theatre Arts and minor in TV Film/Production - CaptainPirateKalven  319.8 #734 2:54AM
Very cool. What tv shows have you been on? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:20AM
I'm currently in college and my major is communicative disorders. - aidensmama  340.1 #645 11:19PM
That sounds interesting! Would you be working in a special ed class or be a speech therapist or am I completely wrong? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 11:22PM
I am planning on the speech therapy aspect but may try to get certified as an assistant before going to grad school. This is my last year before my BA so I have a lot to think about. Some people do go for their teaching credentials after the program but most people in the major intend on becoming speech pathologists. - aidensmama  340.1 #645 11:27PM

Liberal Studies at CSU Hayward/East Bay (between Oakland and San Jose). I wanted to be a teacher, but grades were too low for credential program and I ran out of money to pay for classes. So then I just started working on Nickelodeon cruises. Are we allowed to say that 'Nick' word on here? - jugglingjeremy  223.0 #1612 12:08AM
I didn't even know nickelodeon had cruises... - cynDOLEwhip  1175.5 #134 12:29AM
They partnered with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in 2008 and 2009, and then set up a long-term deal with Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2010. Definitely nowhere near anything like Disney Cruises. - jugglingjeremy  223.0 #1612 12:34AM

Majoring in Biology as a pre-med student :) - ZippADeeDani  142.0 #2751 12:26AM
I have a BA in Early Childhood Studies. Since I graduated I haven't found a job so its up in the air what my future holds. Its either I try again to find a job in that field or I think hard and figure out to do something else. - iamdugsmaster  878.7 #183 12:29AM
ECC! That was my focus when I went to school. I should have minored in it or made it my second major. But then I wouldn't have known what to do in that field either. Good luck finding a job! - jugglingjeremy  223.0 #1612 12:35AM
Thanks! - iamdugsmaster  878.7 #183 12:56AM

I was going to college wwwwaaaayyyy back when... I was going for early childhood, but I had my daughter early and couldn't finish... Always wish I did... Now I'm a mom of 3... And work in hospitality - HawaiiTink  230.0 #1527 12:31AM
Same with me. I was a young mom and quit to focus on my family.. Once they got older, i went back for my BA, took a semester off to have another baby, and am in my third year of grad school. - FindMeAtTheCove  237.4 #1420 1:27AM
You go girl :) - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:27AM
Theater (big surprise there), computer animation, art, computer electronics, anthropology and psychology. And putting that all to good use by working at DL! - SUUZinOCretiredPLAID  1035.7 #163 12:36AM
Majoring in theatre really does prepare you for the 'real world'! - Gia  802.0 #206 8:32AM
Oh goodness where do I start? Well I went to school to be a Montessori Pre school teacher. I had a month and a half left and I dropped out of the program. ( what was I thinking?!?) I had to go back a community college and finish getting my early childhood classes. And now I'm torn between going to school for being a director of Christian education or going into public relations or going into the military. Oh lovely forks in the road. - Flyingtoneverland  188.1 #2059 12:40AM
Just flip a three sided coin haha - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:28AM
I majored in Elementary Education and minored in European Studies with a German emphasis at Linfield College. - fletheartsdisney  616.8 #296 12:42AM
What is a German emphasis? Do they do things different there? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:29AM
The German emphasis was because I had some German language classes--not enough to be a German minor, but enough that I was able to add the "German emphasis" to my minor. - fletheartsdisney  616.8 #296 7:07PM
Currently in my second year to earn 4 certificates as a Medical Assistant. I would like to get my AS too. Started my BA many years ago but I never finished. - Song  1707.5 #83 12:45AM
What are the 4 certifications in? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:30AM

And MrMears majored in French and secondary education - MrsMears  217.1 #1696 1:21AM
So I am the one you don't want to get to know? I took no college courses, had no major, started working right after HS. Guess I don't measure up. - SorcererBHhaha  409.0 #498 1:23AM
Awww, don't say that. As long as you're healthy, breathing and happy with where you're at in life, then that's all that matters (: - PrincessMacy  536.5 #350 1:28AM
College isn't for everyone.. And success is measured in different ways. =) - FindMeAtTheCove  237.4 #1420 1:40AM
You know, I forgot a :-). But thanks you two, I'll add you to my list of definite meet up withs when I get back there! - SorcererBHhaha  409.0 #498 2:00AM
My husband never went to college and is one of the most successful people I know. As he says college is scam unless you need a license to practice or do your job. College is only an option and not needed for success. - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  433.4 #459 7:02AM
We all love Walt Disney and he didn't have a college degree. If we talk about success, neither did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates among many others. - IBelieveInFairies  640.4 #282 9:18AM
I know plenty who never went to college and making a great life for themselves, you just have to be smart in life. - MarshaMouse  4176.5 #26 9:30AM
Business management. - annamichelle  234.5 #1461 1:42AM
I got my BA in sociology. Had my plan to go back to Sac State to get my Master in Counseling in Education but I didnt. Instead I found a job that paid well. - adventurerEnDisneylandia {AED}  868.8 #189 2:03AM
Score!! Sounds like you still got a great deal - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:32AM
Started with economics with minors in French and computer science. Realized there were no French speaking people in SoCal (😜), and that I wasn't good at economics or computer programming. Eventually, I got my BA in east Asian studies, Chinese concentration. Then after serving in americorps, did a summer program with Berkeley studying drama in London. Two years later, got my teaching credential. - bluefairy  643.3 #279 2:09AM
How did you like the London experience? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:33AM
I was in class maybe 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. In addition, we saw at least 2 plays per week. The city was beautiful, and I wish I had taken more time to explore it, but I usually spent my weekends hopping on trains and backpacking in Scotland or wales, etc. I LOVE Scotland. The people are so friendly, which I can't necessarily say about London. 😜 - bluefairy  643.3 #279 10:34PM
I'm studying English education with an emphasis in literature. I'm supposed to get my teaching credential but with the state of things in the Us, going into more debt with no possibility of teaching in a public school seems stupid. So instead I'm going to teach ESL in another country or become a copy editor. Haven't decided yet. - ladylikesdisney  945.0 #174 2:22AM
However, id be a BA writing teacher, which is what this country needs more of, so sucks for the US for missing out on utilizing my talents! - ladylikesdisney  945.0 #174 2:27AM
The united states doesn't treat teacher with the respect they need. It should be a very prestigious and well paid possition in society. If we don't teach our children with the best teachers then we end up in a stupid society. - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:35AM
My sister is a professor and teaches ESL. She doesn't have problems finding jobs and has taught all over so cal. She is now at USC and loves it. - Minnis2Society  369.9 #566 9:36AM
Stacy, the problem with that is that in order to be a professor at most universities you have to have your doctorate or at least masters. I don't want to go into grad school right away. But thanks for the heads up, ill definitely keep that in mind for later. - ladylikesdisney  945.0 #174 10:14AM
I originally went to get a BA in History to be a History teacher. Then I changed it to Liberal Studies because I wanted to teach in Elementary School. Then four years ago I got my Teaching Credential. I'm hoping to go back and get a Masters but I don't know in what just yet. - Sandcar13  1391.0 #107 2:25AM
Majored in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, International Business, and graduated with Music Recording Technology... and currently working on my Cardiovascular Technology degree. They said "Stay in school." ... and I'm still there. - LaTruce  2261.3 #56 2:29AM

Do you have 5 degrees? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:36AM

Early childhood education and Psychology for me ☺ - PanPiratePoppyCock  227.1 #1562 2:41AM
Started out majoring in Marine Biology but came back home after my freshman year to help take care of my grandma. After she passed I started taking Early Childhood Education classes, that unfortunately didn't last long due to some other family issues. Never went back to school, but I'm interested in taking Business classes as well as Photography (for fun). I never would have thought I'd have my current job, and am getting a pretty hefty raise soon but would like to have some type of certificate/degree to give me more opportunities within the company. - LBChica  2303.6 #54 2:44AM
I went to Chico State and got a B.S. in Agriculture. - Sharkgrrl19  240.9 #1387 4:12AM

Have my B.S. in Criminology with an emphasis in victimology. Originally wanted to be a victim's advocate. Now work in the legal field as a paralegal/assistant. If I could afford going back to school I would take biology. Have no idea what I would do with it but I have a strong interest for science. I like what I do but still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Very interesting post. - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  433.4 #459 6:57AM
I have never heard of victimology. Sounds very interesting though :) - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:39AM

You have lots of time to decide :) even when people graduate from college they have no ide what they are interested in and many go into fields that are different than the degree they received. Don't let anyone push you into a certain major, just take lots of different types of classes and see what you are good in and enjoy :) - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 9:44AM
AA in Transfer Studies from Southwestern Community College, BA(liberal studies) and credential from CSUSM. I teach 2nd gr now. - emnldsmom  321.8 #724 8:35AM

My BS is in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento. I've worked as a civilian investigator, meaning I am not a police officer, but I got to do a lot of the same things as an officer. Everyone in my classification was laid off last year due to budget cuts, and I realized how much my degree boxed me in and couldn't really be used to start over with something new. It looks like I'll have a job again soon, so looking forward to it! My favorite quote that kept me going is "Keep moving forward " - duckymomo  36.8 #5049 10:30AM

I went to CSUCI and have a BA in art with a focus digital. - BooEve123  800.9 #207 11:10PM
My first degree is administration to justice, cannot use it now that I was hurt. Now I take classes for web design and photography. My comment here is to remind those of you in or out of california, you can take any online classes at the many junior colleges here and get your AA if that is what you want or a certificate. You don't even need to live near the school. plus there are so many 4 year schools that are going online. So anyone with regrets, sign up, take a class and who knows!!!!! - secretagentangel  1493.3 #98 11:25PM
My problem is I can't afford it. - IMissDisney  1205.7 #129 11:27PM
yes, our classes have gone up to $150 each plus books and supplies, and they really have cut back on grants and stuff. But I have been told that our schools here are much cheaper than the schools in other states. I hope you get to go sometime. - secretagentangel  1493.3 #98 11:37PM
I have my Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Haven't decided yet if I want to go through the torture again for a Master's. - DisneyFunSize  34.9 #5160 11:37PM
What is the benefit of a masters in nursing? one step closer to being a doctor? - GodOfWine  487.8 #396 11:15PM
Yes, yes you do. Opens more doors for you. more money. I had been debating CNS over NP but I keep hearing hospitals are dropping CNS'es....so it's NP for me. - KissDclown  1089.1 #151 5:02AM

I wanted to be a lactation consultant after my last baby. I will refrain from details, but i was truly inspired. I've always been pro nursing. - FindMeAtTheCove  237.4 #1420 12:25AM
I am an L&D/postpartum nurse. I can't tell you how much I appreciate our lactation consultant. She is also an nurse though. It's nice ecaise if we are short handed she jumps in and helps us. - KissDclown  1089.1 #151 5:05AM
@findmeatthecove: after having my son, I was inspired too! I remember how difficult it was, in the beginning and how wonderful it was to have the LCs there to help! I wouldn't mind teaching it either :). @kissdclown: I talked to a school in San Diego and they recommended going through a nursing program, which would be way too expensive but I'm still young :) (sort of lol). - kss4tink  218.0 #1679 9:18PM

http://cchealth.org/eh/retail-food/dog-law-faq.php Β  I know folks love theiri pets but I still do not think this is sanitary Β from a food perspective. See the url for CA law. Unless they provide a designated pet area outside, dogs cannot lick the plates/utensils, who cleans up after a dog accident......No pets in at a restaurant for now (service dogs are the exception). Disney is excellent with their food cleanliness in the parks per the Public health inspections. DTD does not fare as well per Restaurarant inspection. Check the Health Care Agency for the current restaurant inspections. As a Public health nurse I always check to see who is keeping clean in their kitchens. Diners beware! - Plumiegirl  8785.9 #3 10:42AM

Here are the latest Disneyland Real-Time Land posts. If you're at the Park, please post in Disneyland Real-Time Land, thanks for posting live pics!

#24HourDay TRAFFIC, PARKING, PARK CLOSURES, TICKET SALES...Please use this post to keep everyone updated on what's happening during the 24 hour day!!! Since ppl are already heading out, I thought I'd post this now. We all know what happened on Leap Day with the freeway being jammed, parking being blocked, ticket sales stopped and the Parks being closed due to capacity!! As you are coming to the Parks, please update us if the freeway and roads are backed up, if parking areas are closed and if so, where did you have to park? Is the ramp open to access M&F? Were you not able to purchase a ticket? Were you not allowed into the Parks? Please add anything else you might find helpful. A lot of people will be coming after work, so it will help them know what to expect and if they will be allowed in the Parks at that time. Let's keep this bumped and updated as much as possible!! If you need any updates, just ask here!! Have a great and safe 24 hour day!! Happy 60th!!!! - caramiapoohAKAface
