let's start a different type of get to know each other post. what was your major in college? if you weren't able to finish, what we're you planning on going for?
I'm an Integrated Educational Studies major, with a double-minor in English and Women's Studies. I just started my second year of college. - BelleintheTARDIS
258.8 #917 11:26PM
What exactly is integrated educational studies? - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 11:47PM
It's Education, but it can't be called that in the state of California for some reason I always forget. So really, I'm an Education major. - BelleintheTARDIS 258.8 #917 12:07AM
California is always trying to do things different and complicate things. - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 12:14AM
In the state of CA you have to major in what you want to teach or pass the required tests in order to be a teacher. That would be my guess as to why there are no (or few) education majors in CA. - LilSterner 2656.0 #17 10:33PM
BS in anthropology and an emphasis in chemistry and math Now hopefully going for a masters in public health, med school, or an archaeological excavation in mexico/yucatan - CarpeNoctem025

I am planning on the speech therapy aspect but may try to get certified as an assistant before going to grad school. This is my last year before my BA so I have a lot to think about. Some people do go for their teaching credentials after the program but most people in the major intend on becoming speech pathologists. - aidensmama 336.3 #441 11:27PM

So then I just started working on Nickelodeon cruises. Are we allowed to say that 'Nick' word on here? - jugglingjeremy
211.0 #1471 12:08AM
I didn't even know nickelodeon had cruises... - cynDOLEwhip 744.1 #137 12:29AM
They partnered with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines in 2008 and 2009, and then set up a long-term deal with Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2010. Definitely nowhere near anything like Disney Cruises. - jugglingjeremy 211.0 #1471 12:34AM

756.6 #132 12:29AM
ECC! That was my focus when I went to school. I should have minored in it or made it my second major. But then I wouldn't have known what to do in that field either. Good luck finding a job! - jugglingjeremy 211.0 #1471 12:35AM

715.0 #140 12:36AM
Majoring in theatre really does prepare you for the 'real world'! - Gia 782.1 #119 8:32AM
Oh goodness where do I start? Well I went to school to be a Montessori Pre school teacher. I had a month and a half left and I dropped out of the program. ( what was I thinking?!?) I had to go back a community college and finish getting my early childhood classes. And now I'm torn between going to school for being a director of Christian education or going into public relations or going into the military. Oh lovely forks in the road. - Flyingtoneverland
188.1 #1766 12:40AM
Just flip a three sided coin haha - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:28AM
I majored in Elementary Education and minored in European Studies with a German emphasis at Linfield College. - fletheartsdisney
360.2 #387 12:42AM
What is a German emphasis? Do they do things different there? - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:29AM
The German emphasis was because I had some German language classes--not enough to be a German minor, but enough that I was able to add the "German emphasis" to my minor. - fletheartsdisney 360.2 #387 7:07PM
Currently in my second year to earn 4 certificates as a Medical Assistant. I would like to get my AS too. Started my BA many years ago but I never finished. - Song

408.5 #317 1:23AM
Awww, don't say that.
As long as you're healthy, breathing and happy with where you're at in life, then that's all that matters (: - PrincessMacy 501.0 #237 1:28AM

You know, I forgot a :-). But thanks you two, I'll add you to my list of definite meet up withs when I get back there! - SorcererBHhaha 408.5 #317 2:00AM
My husband never went to college and is one of the most successful people I know. As he says college is scam unless you need a license to practice or do your job. College is only an option and not needed for success. - DisneyBride°O° 366.5 #378 7:02AM
We all love Walt Disney and he didn't have a college degree. If we talk about success, neither did Steve Jobs or Bill Gates among many others. - IBelieveInFairies 254.1 #969 9:18AM

263.9 #878 2:03AM
Score!! Sounds like you still got a great deal - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:32AM
Started with economics with minors in French and computer science. Realized there were no French speaking people in SoCal (😜), and that I wasn't good at economics or computer programming. Eventually, I got my BA in east Asian studies, Chinese concentration. Then after serving in americorps, did a summer program with Berkeley studying drama in London. Two years later, got my teaching credential. - bluefairy
627.0 #173 2:09AM
How did you like the London experience? - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:33AM
I was in class maybe 4 hours a day, 4 days a week. In addition, we saw at least 2 plays per week. The city was beautiful, and I wish I had taken more time to explore it, but I usually spent my weekends hopping on trains and backpacking in Scotland or wales, etc. I LOVE Scotland. The people are so friendly, which I can't necessarily say about London. 😜 - bluefairy 627.0 #173 10:34PM
I'm studying English education with an emphasis in literature. I'm supposed to get my teaching credential but with the state of things in the Us, going into more debt with no possibility of teaching in a public school seems stupid. So instead I'm going to teach ESL in another country or become a copy editor. Haven't decided yet. - ladylikesdisney
921.5 #95 2:22AM
However, id be a BA writing teacher, which is what this country needs more of, so sucks for the US for missing out on utilizing my talents! - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 2:27AM
The united states doesn't treat teacher with the respect they need. It should be a very prestigious and well paid possition in society. If we don't teach our children with the best teachers then we end up in a stupid society. - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:35AM
My sister is a professor and teaches ESL. She doesn't have problems finding jobs and has taught all over so cal. She is now at USC and loves it. - Minnis2Society 360.0 #388 9:36AM
Stacy, the problem with that is that in order to be a professor at most universities you have to have your doctorate or at least masters. I don't want to go into grad school right away. But thanks for the heads up, ill definitely keep that in mind for later. - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 10:14AM
I originally went to get a BA in History to be a History teacher. Then I changed it to Liberal Studies because I wanted to teach in Elementary School. Then four years ago I got my Teaching Credential. I'm hoping to go back and get a Masters but I don't know in what just yet. - Sandcar13
1329.7 #60 2:25AM

Started out majoring in Marine Biology but came back home after my freshman year to help take care of my grandma. After she passed I started taking Early Childhood Education classes, that unfortunately didn't last long due to some other family issues. Never went back to school, but I'm interested in taking Business classes as well as Photography (for fun). I never would have thought I'd have my current job, and am getting a pretty hefty raise soon but would like to have some type of certificate/degree to give me more opportunities within the company. - LBChica

You have lots of time to decide :) even when people graduate from college they have no ide what they are interested in and many go into fields that are different than the degree they received. Don't let anyone push you into a certain major, just take lots of different types of classes and see what you are good in and enjoy :) - GodOfWine 465.3 #261 9:44AM

My BS is in Criminal Justice from CSU Sacramento. I've worked as a civilian investigator, meaning I am not a police officer, but I got to do a lot of the same things as an officer. Everyone in my classification was laid off last year due to budget cuts, and I realized how much my degree boxed me in and couldn't really be used to start over with something new. It looks like I'll have a job again soon, so looking forward to it! My favorite quote that kept me going is "Keep moving forward " - duckymomo

My first degree is administration to justice, cannot use it now that I was hurt. Now I take classes for web design and photography. My comment here is to remind those of you in or out of california, you can take any online classes at the many junior colleges here and get your AA if that is what you want or a certificate. You don't even need to live near the school. plus there are so many 4 year schools that are going online. So anyone with regrets, sign up, take a class and who knows!!!!! - secretagentangel

My problem is I can't afford it. - MyPark 943.6 #91 11:27PM
yes, our classes have gone up to $150 each plus books and supplies, and they really have cut back on grants and stuff. But I have been told that our schools here are much cheaper than the schools in other states. I hope you get to go sometime. - secretagentangel 660.4 #156 11:37PM

@findmeatthecove: after having my son, I was inspired too! I remember how difficult it was, in the beginning and how wonderful it was to have the LCs there to help! I wouldn't mind teaching it either :).
@kissdclown: I talked to a school in San Diego and they recommended going through a nursing program, which would be way too expensive but I'm still young :) (sort of lol). - kss4tink 216.8 #1392 9:18PM
