Question for all of the MWs out there who do not live in SoCal. When you plan your DL trip do you usually use a travel agent or do you book flight and hotel/park package seperately? I think we are going to use a travel agent this time. It just seems easier and we are getting a good deal through them.

First thing you should know, if you didn't, you do not pay to use a travel agent. Some agents or agencies might charge a small fee for large trips, that require a lot of work. Travel agents are knowledable and often times are able to have access to fantastic deals from vendors. I live in NorCal, and I do not use an agent for my trips to DL, but I encourage folks that live a few states over or are out of the country, to utilize the services of an agent. They do all the work for you, so you can just enjoy. :) 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1130.4 #134 12:32PM
then why do they have a business where people are paying them and it ain't no small fee - AZDizFanEMT  10.9 #9157 1:08PM
AZ~Huh?? I used to have an agency. My $ came more from commission through the various business I was connected with. A small fee would be charged for building itineraries and other such items that require time. Travel agents are like any other profession yet people dont want to pay a fee. I had clients willing to pay $1,000's on trips but would balk at my fee of $40-50 to plan their trip for them. In addition, to being there for them when they missed flight, cruises and other unexpected events. I highly appreciate DFZ's comment!! - Romec123aKaSmartyPants  650.0 #266 2:35PM
😊😊 I'm often boggled by the misunderstanding people have of travel agents. How are experts in the travel industry a bad thing to turn to? Crazy... - DisneyFanZoe  1130.4 #134 2:55PM
I use Agent P - Mouse4life  1293.1 #110 11:24AM
I wouldn't normally consider a travel agent but used one for our coming trip. Flights you don't get much of a deal and pay the travel agent I think but we got $30 off our tickets booking through an agent and the best part was our hotel which we got at least $300 off for 8 nights compared to the cheapest I found online. On top of that you pay for your room up front and don't have to worry about it when you get there as well as if anything were to happen your travel agent would deal with it and you could get your money back. Just because you find it online doesn't mean you get the best deals lol. - DaisyCrazy  255.1 #1207 12:22PM
What's a travel agent? LOL. We NEVER use a travel agent. I do my research on the internet and piece our vacations together to get the best deal and experience for the price. - NurseDisney  30.3 #5402 11:11AM
we live in AZ so no flying but we do it ourselves, you pay travel agents to do everything you can do yourself for free - AZDizFanEMT  10.9 #9157 11:15AM
You do not pay travel agents. - DisneyFanZoe  1130.4 #134 12:52PM
uh sorry they do get paid, have fam members that are and they're not getting paid cuz of their good looks - AZDizFanEMT  10.9 #9157 12:59PM
So they ARE getting paid for their work like anyone else. Why pay a mechanic when you can fix a car yourself? I had a Smart friend tell me she did better than me in planning her out of the country vacation where I had already gone and was familiar with. She got a great hotel for a great price. When she returned home she told me her great hotel was in a red light district. She was so scared and uncomfortable because she was alone that she left her room a total of 4 times in 8 days. Great ol Internet! - Romec123aKaSmartyPants  650.0 #266 2:43PM
Of course agents get PAID, but the client does NOT pay them. They are paid by the commissions they make from the vendors. - DisneyFanZoe  1130.4 #134 2:48PM
Pretty sure you only pay travel agents for plane tickets everything else is commission from the vendors. Plus you can usually get the best deals available. I also must add that by taking jobs away by doing things "yourself" hurts the economy and more people will loose jobs as businesses cant afford to keep up with costs (photography, travel agents etc) And I'm saying this as a general comment not a attack on your post :) - DaisyCrazy  255.1 #1207 1:10PM
From when i have done it, the travel agent still has to go through the disney website we go through. We booked through costco one year and seemed like a great deal. - DisneyVacationLover  460.7 #417 11:16AM
No need for a travel agent. Use the Internet for flights and Priceline for hotels. Travel agents can't get better pricing on DL tickets than you can on your own. - IMissDisney  1205.3 #123 11:16AM
i work for a hotel in pasadena ca. if you do a little research it will be allot cheaper. promise - Hendizl  2553.4 #44 11:16AM
Hi! I live in Pasadena! 😊 I just think its nice to know that there's MW's in the neighborhood! - gigibunny2  242.8 #1351 2:52PM
Live in Utah and we do our own booking. I check all the travel websites. - jjdq  338.0 #647 11:29AM
We have APs so no tickets needed, we drive so no flight needed and as for the hotel you can book it with a great deal at the official MW hotel the HoJo. - PlutosBuddy  403.2 #498 11:35AM
I tried the Disney website then booking a flight but it really wasn't that much cheaper. With the travel agent price we get flight, transportation to and from the hotel, room and tickets and a character breakfast for $1000.00 per person. Getting there on a Sunday and leaving the next Sunday. - Cinderkelly  55.7 #4268 11:39AM
If you are out of the US I would say use an agent, otherwise do some research and book it yourself. Package deals are usually the best value, IMO. - Linzee  992.3 #165 11:40AM
Yea no way! I plan it wayyyyyyy in advance and wait for airline tickets to get super cheap and buy. Plus we go during the week when crowds are lower and hotels cheaper. :) you don't need a TA to do that - disneymomma87  205.5 #1828 11:43AM
I like getawaytoday.com. They saved us tons over doing it ourselves. - HasAnyoneSeenMyGlassSlipper  644.6 #269 11:48AM
They saved us more than the 25% off pin I got from Disney. - HasAnyoneSeenMyGlassSlipper  644.6 #269 1:57PM
Mostly do it on my own. AAA sometimes - E-Ticket  1272.2 #112 11:51AM
We live in AZ and we drive, we also make our own hotel reservations. - MikeyMouse  93.0 #3527 11:54AM
I'm my very own travel agent hehe ! I think to me it's just easy that way : ) - jmza4  259.7 #31532 11:55AM
Nope, we live in central cali and drive. I always find a better deal than a travel agent, usually save $200 doing things myself - GoofyMom77  643.0 #271 12:02PM
We don't use a travel agent either. Just book online. - MinnieKimmy  210.8 #1767 12:03PM
LOL! Ya I know you don't (this is my sister!) You should Consider it this time. - Cinderkelly  55.7 #4268 12:39PM
walt disney travil all the way love it and they are great - mousedaddy  262.4 #1143 12:04PM
Are they different from booking through the Disney website? - Cinderkelly  55.7 #4268 12:48PM
We usually do all of it ourselves.. but this time we went thru a TA/AAA and got a great deal. 4 day pass to the parks, 3 nights at Marriott, transportation from airport to hotel and back and breakfast every morning for 3 adults $1202.00 got flight for $68 each - 2mousears  16.1 #7361 12:11PM
No need for travel agent is why my and so many agencies went defunct. - Romec123aKaSmartyPants  650.0 #266 12:55PM
I'm sorry to hear that. Technology can be a double edged sword. - PartOfYourWorld  74.5 #3825 1:27PM
I book all of our own vacations, including our Disneyland/Cruise vacation in November. :D - MrsMears  217.1 #1679 1:01PM
I just booked our DL trip myself after getting a quote from a travel agent. They were charging $1000 more than booking it online myself. Why pay more than you have to? - PrincessDelaine  212.9 #1734 2:08PM
You should check out getawaytoday.com. They saved us tons and are experts on the local hotels in Anahiem. Great customer service as well! - HasAnyoneSeenMyGlassSlipper  644.6 #269 1:08PM
I always use a travel agent. They have saved me so much money. Able to set up military discounts for my dad, cheaper hotels I could go on. - JediTrance  71.6 #3889 1:42PM
I'm local, so this doesn't technically count. But I've used hotels.com to book a couple nights stay near the resort, and saved a LOT of $$$!! - GrimGrinningAmanda  660.1 #260 1:54PM
