Does anyone remember a long time ago when Excalibur could actually be pulled out of the stone in Fantasyland? I remember seeing it once when I was a little kid and wishing that could have been me. I'm sure the sword can still be removed, I just don't know if it's still done. I also know the release mechanism is hidden someplace near the sword-but I've never been able to track it down.
I saw a kid pull the sword out of the stone last night. First time I saw it. Of course a bunch of people tried right after and couldn't do it. That being said, please leave the Disney magic alone. - ScooterMike

Scootermike- no intention of disturbing the magic, but I am a trivia hound that loves to know how things work. That to me is the magic. - Firelt 221.4 #1369 4:25PM
Magicians never give away their secrets. That's why it's magic. - ScooterMike 1959.8 #37 4:54PM
Unfortunately, people will want to find out about it an mess it up for the rest. - splashphotoCM 881.4 #104 4:55PM
I would highly advise you to not find that mechanism. It is for cast member use only, and you could get kicked out or possibly banned for doing so. I'd rather just use my immense strength to yank it out without any outside help :) - Slotherini

how many times has this "immense strength" pulled out excalibur? - Radius 502.3 #239 8:53AM
What is this mechanism you speak of? The only way to pull the sword out of this stone is a king... "Whoso Pulleth Out This Sword of this Stone and Anvil, is Rightwise King Born of England." Everybody knows that ;) - gigibunny2

I wouldn't use it, I just have an immense curiosity and want to know where it is. - Firelt

Okay, so from what I gather it is still done, I just have not seen it. Great! Now, how do I get my grandson to be the one that pulls the sword from the stone? - Firelt

Have him stand in line all day and try a bunch of times and really have him try hard and hopefully it will be his "night" to pull it out!! - secretagentangel 710.6 #143 3:16PM
Yeah, that's great advise for a 5 year old. I'll get right on that. - Firelt 221.4 #1369 5:33PM
In 1990 while at the park, Merlin came into the audience and chose my 8 yr old son to pull the sword from the stone. After several tries he did it. They named him king of Dland for the day, took him to city hall and presented him with a button and a certificate pronouncing him king for the day! It was amazing! - ckphoto

Only the rightful king of England can do it. Don't mess with the powers of the Lady of the Lake. - cesium55
