My last name is Durr. No matter what I name my children they will be teased. I love the name 'Mae' for a girl, but say it together. Now that's a Disney name! - erincredible 199.6 #1636 10:17PM
^ugh wrong thread but read below, you'll get it - erincredible 199.6 #1636 10:20PM
Not sure if it's considered Disney, but if I have a girl, I want to name her Anaheim :) - AnaheimsMom
230.6 #1228 10:36PM
The other day I was eavesdropping on some ladies who were discussing a fellow girlfriend, who was so "obsessed with Disneyland" that she named her daughter Katella - angelle 7.1 #8074 11:19PM
It's hard to go through life with a very unusual name. So you might really want to consider how a future child of yours would feel having a name like that. Just my opinion. - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 11:20PM
No way @angelle! That's nuts! 😳 - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 11:21PM
Not Disney, but no joke my insurance guy's name is Harry Bald - Villescas8(V8) 589.1 #184 11:25PM
Well Paulina isn't exactly a normal name and I never had a hard time in my life because of it..I happen to really like the name I chose. - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 11:25PM
I've heard Paulina many times before, it's not unusual. I'm coming from experience, (Zoe) is a nickname, it's not fun having a nutty name as a kid. - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 11:28PM
Well I'll keep that in mind when the time comes. - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 11:35PM
Wait do Zoe is nickname, what's real name? DM me - Villescas8(V8) 589.1 #184 11:37PM
i know it sucks to have a weird name growing up, but i like yours, zoe. :) - nicoleface 1247.5 #65 11:38PM
Thanks Nicole! 😘 Will do V8! - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 11:41PM
Yeah, Nicole is sooo weird! - cesium55 529.7 #215 11:46PM
Having a different name is very rewarding and frustrating at times. I get tons of compliments, but my name is often mispronounced even after they are told. - Armenda 982.0 #89 11:46PM
When my son asks why I named him Tucson I'm going to tell him you gave me the idea! 😝 love you twin!! - AshleyLynn22 747.6 #136 11:49PM
I was always jealous of my friends who could find their names on keychains and stickers and stuff. People still cannot say my name correctly and I have to spell it out for almost everyone. I love my name now, but I didn't really embrace it till after my mid 20's. - OutNumberedMom 772.4 #126 11:49PM
Exactly ONM. I just wanted to be like everyone else when I was younger. But your name is beautiful! And yeah, I'm sure you can imagine what I get Army.... :D 😂 - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 11:53PM
Oh yea..I don't even want to pronounce it. I'm glad you go by Zoe! haha - Armenda 982.0 #89 11:57PM
Now I'm curious as to what your names are.. Lol but my name is somewhat common, and I still hardly find it on keychains :[ - MEHlanie_Mouse 690.1 #146 12:00AM
Eh, oh well. I love the name, and that's what matters. I'm not one who likes to be like everyone else, and I hope my child will like being unique as well lol. - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 12:01AM
Lol Twin!! You should name your son Milwaukee 😁 - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 12:03AM
ces, nicole is the WEIRDEST name i've ever heard. fits the person though. ;P - nicoleface 1247.5 #65 12:03AM
Haha Army!! Face is not a weird name. 😜 And really, it's not all that matters. Your child should come first, not just what you like, especially when several of us with different names are telling you it wasn't fun. But you're young, clearly, hopefully you'll reconsider. - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 12:11AM
I named my boys very plain, normal names. And funny enough they are the only William and David in their grade. I think an unusual name that is unusual because it's an ethnic name is one thing. But giving a child a name just to be different is selfish. You don't have to live with that name. The child does. And you may change your mind by the time you have your girl, or your husband vetoes the name. Or you name her Anaheim. Doesn't matter, as long as you really thought about all the sides and opinions. - OutNumberedMom 772.4 #126 12:19AM
I'm 21, I won't be having kids anytime soon. But it's not like im going to ask my newborn child what she would like to be named. My parents chose my name because they liked it, same with your parents. I don't see myself picking the name Mary just because it's normal, because like I said, I like to be different and I want to teach my children that it's ok to be different. - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 12:20AM
Young, like I said. And it's obvious you aren't a Mama. You wouldn't think that way if you were. Having a weird name doesn't teach a child that it's ok to be different. It just points to you and how you think. Talk to us in 10 years and we'll see where you are. I'll bet money, you'll wonder what the heck you were thinking. - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 12:26AM
Actually, my aunt named me because my parents thought I was going to be a boy and had only thought of Eric for a name. I think it was an "Oh well" moment - cesium55 529.7 #215 12:26AM
ces, you would have made a WONDERFUL eric. 😜 - nicoleface 1247.5 #65 12:29AM
I have classmates named 'Rock' and 'Rusty'... Just because their parents thought it would be cool to name their kid something different and "fun" they had to go through their entire childhood with those names, getting picked on even by teachers. Unique names are great and all but I would definitely consider the negative consequences that could arise. - Jenniferr 428.0 #294 12:43AM
Well there was Rock Hudson... but there's also Rusty Griswold - cesium55 529.7 #215 12:45AM
but Rusty was a nickname for Russell.. my friend's legal name was literally Rusty LOL I didn't believe it when I first met him.. - Jenniferr 428.0 #294 12:51AM
i legitimately knew someone named princess. legally named princess. it was weird. - nicoleface 1247.5 #65 12:57AM
I overheard someone on the phone telling them her name was Queen Esther something or other. Didn't catch the last name - cesium55 529.7 #215 12:58AM
I knew a set of twins in high school named Tom and Jerry. I swear, their parents named them Tom and Jerry. And I am pretty sure the cartoons were born first. - OutNumberedMom 772.4 #126 1:09AM
My friend that's a teacher told me she had a student named Mister. Mom told her she named him that because peopl would have to show him respect no matter what cause they had to call him Mister. - Sandcar13 1329.7 #60 1:11AM
I have one of those weird names. It's very common in Costa Rica, where my family is from, but here... most people can't say it correctly. So I just go by a shorter version. lol. - SleepyTortuga 287.2 #684 1:19AM
I know twins named Alvin and Simon but no Theodore - cesium55 529.7 #215 1:22AM
I enroll families into state funded programs and I have seen so many names that make u wonder what patents were thinking when they named their kids. All were on Burt cert. I had a Chase Budweiser, Pretty Sparkle, Tom Hanks , and 3 brothers their names were Jefferson, Clinton and Reagan. 😃 - DSNYCheeks3 533.8 #212 1:30AM
Omg! I knew of a student years ago named Pretty Sparkle Ashley!!! 😱😂😂 - bluefairy 627.0 #173 1:59AM
My name is so common. If I ever have a girl I would love her name to be Chloe Nayeli (Nayeli is "I love you" in native american)! Ha Chloe and Milwakee! 👍👍👍 - AshleyLynn22 747.6 #136 2:09AM
My name is somewhat common. I'm starting to hear it more. If I have a child that is a girl, I'm gonna name her La-a. - TheNewTrent 505.4 #232 2:21AM
"Boy Named Sue" by Johnny Cash anyone? - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 2:25AM
^ yessss jessica! i'm surprised i didn't think of it earlier. - nicoleface 1247.5 #65 2:31AM
Perfect example of why to not name your kid an odd name. - ladylikesdisney 921.5 #95 2:34AM
ima name my kid zing zing zing ba. - kristian 1765.8 #42 4:05AM
I know a girl named Unique. That's her actual name. - mermaidhair 176.3 #1905 5:10AM
I know all about unique names so I can empathize. Although, in my case, I absolutely love my name. I had a ton of ridicule as a child: Taco Bell, Dibble, Diablo, etc. - EpicDio 380.8 #351 7:14AM
My daughter has an uncommon name, I'm hoping when I can explain to her the reason we chose it, it'll help her embrace it at an earlier age. I do feel bad though that she won't be able to buy a mug or keychain with her name, but we can always order customized stuff for her. @SleepyTortuga You're tica??? My family is from Costa Rica as well. =) - LBChica 1499.4 #51 7:21AM
I went to elementary school with a girl named Princess and high school with a girl named Jingle. Mine is at least a family name haha! - Armenda 982.0 #89 7:28AM
I think it can go either way. My name is Sarah. All through school I was Sarah C. because there was always at least one other Sarah in my class and I hated it. I've always wanted a unique name. - MXPrincess399 482.1 #244 7:50AM
I went to school with a boy named Shannon. There was also a group of sisters named Treasure and Secret and thier brother was Tiger - GoofyMom77 108.5 #2920 7:58AM
Anaheim makes me think of the chile. - WishIWereThere 227.4 #1277 8:06AM
I'm just glad things didn't get out of hand last night, and now I have a new name! - AnaheimsMom 230.6 #1228 9:19AM
@Goofy, I went to school with a male Shannon too! @AnaheimsMom - How ever did you come up with the name! :-P - Armenda 982.0 #89 9:26AM
I also knew a Tuesday, Sunday, and a January - GoofyMom77 108.5 #2920 9:32AM
There was a girl in my elementary school named Precious. I also have a friend named Charna :) I'm all for creative names, but you have to know not to cross the line into weird. - BettyPoop 232.0 #1211 10:00AM
My name is uncommon and is also spelled a little different. My parents explained to me why they chose it when I was pretty young and I have always loved my name! I have to correct people all the time but since I love my name it honestly doesn't bother me. 😊 - MinnieMousewife 569.9 #192 10:23AM
SPR, haha I am not sure if I could contain myself if I had those student names in my class. We will see on Monday when I get my rosters - Villescas8(V8) 589.1 #184 10:39AM
@AnaheimsMom- wait- your user name is your unborn potential daughter's name? hm. Well, 'Anaheim' name is a blend of "Ana", after the nearby Santa Ana River, and "heim", a common German place name compound originally meaning "home". - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint 1761.6 #43 10:46AM
😂😂😂 I LOVE that you changed your name!!! - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 10:49AM
When I worked for an afterschool program I had two twin girls named Ima and Ura but it was really really sad because their last name was pig. - PrincessTianaCM 213.1 #1440 10:57AM
I believe they were in foster care because the mom was on drugs. But they were the sweetest little kids. - PrincessTianaCM 213.1 #1440 11:08AM
I know I'm coming to this convo ridiculously late, but I too have a uniqueish name: April Dae. My dad was a hippy and wanted to name me April Love. My mom said she didn't want her daughter to be a stripper. So she said April Dawn. But I was born in the evening. So they decided to name me April Day, but let my mom who was hopped up on pain meds spell it. I think it's hilarious now, but didn't like it as a child. I alwaysswore I would name my daughter Mae Dae to get back at them. - LittleAprilShowers 471.0 #255 9:45PM
I'm a proud member of the "Why do you bother checking, they're not going to have your name on that mug/ruler/keychain etc" club. While my name isn't really crazy, it is unique... I am now at the point where I respond to "Kayla" (it's pronounced Ky-lah) when that's not my name because I'm tired of correcting people all the time lol - KylaShea 533.2 #213 10:09PM
I work in child welfare and have come across some crazy names. Most recently, Adrenalina. - tballzz 390.1 #343 10:13PM
My ex went to school with a girl named ABC. It was pronounced absidee - KylaShea 533.2 #213 10:13PM
Just thought I'd share my cousins unique names: raven and majik, both girls. I've never met anyone named Anaheim, so it would definitely be unique! - Princessana08 39.3 #4006 10:15PM
Anyone remember the MWer who asked our opinion on the baby being named Tomarrow? - Alicewhoareyou 535.8 #209 10:23PM
I worked at schools in Alaska doing school pictures and came across a boy named Nimrod. I felt so bad for him. But the weirdest one I have ever heard is twin boys at a daycare my cousin worked at..Orangello and Lemongello. The first thing their mom ate after they were born orange jello and lemon jello. And yes I met their mother. - Deltachiq 968.8 #90 10:47PM
I met a kid named Nimrod also when I worked at a summer camp! - Slotherini 882.3 #99 10:48PM
My name is Kori Rae and I've always been made fun of for it. Especially for my last name which a lot of cruel jokes sprouted from. (Even a certain cm at starbucks was like "that's a Guy name") but I do love my name now because it is unique and only a few girls are named Kori! Plus I love all the middle names with the suffix -ae. My sister's middle name is Mae. No kid ever likes their name until they're older I think. Name your child anything you want! - mermaidhair 176.3 #1905 11:02PM
my name is so common that there was a total of three Samantha's on by street growing up. so I have my grandmother to thank for giving my nickname that I use here :) I have only met one other SammyJo. the names I have picked out are pretty traditional and like itso I can come up with a nickname that suits their own personality :) - SammyJo 348.7 #414 11:39PM
SammyJo I feel your pain. Amy is way too common. So common that it is my stepsisters name and my best friend in high school. It was fun when the three of us were together. When someone would yell Amy we would yell back "which one?" - Deltachiq 968.8 #90 11:58PM
I'm tired so I read five as favorite. I was all, I hope she didn't name another one Cinderella and make her do all the chores. - LittleAprilShowers

I will name my son Rafiki - CptKirk
697.0 #141 11:48PM
I don't usually weigh in on topics like this, however I do get to go to a few deliveries and I always ask the what the name is. Some are out there in my opinion (but I'm not the parent). ABC did a show on names. People that were very well educated, but had very unusual or ethnic names, were NOT getting jobs. ABC changed the name on the resume (all were online), and one woman had 15 requests for interviews in 30 min. Unfortunately, despite the "diversity" in the American culture, people are still very judgmental by preconceived ideas about a name. The Internet keeps the face to face contact for last. It is the first gift a parent gives a child. - Sugarbuzz
44.3 #3868 5:45AM
It was very eye opening. Almost frightening. Being female, my name was a male name when I was younger. Now it is a more unisex name even leaning towards female. I have had distant relatives (who never met me) ask if I was a boy or girl. - Sugarbuzz 44.3 #3868 6:43AM
My sister in law had to put a shorter version of her name in order for her to get called for interviews. Its really sad! - Armenda 982.0 #89 7:39AM
I totally would've, but my husband would've never let me name our son Mickey lol :) - MrsDisneyMommy29

I hope she wasn't born with the horns, ouch. - MightyWhitey 648.3 #164 10:35PM
No. Horns grew in after she turned 16. And it was a water birth. Helped dim her flames. - DisneyFanZoe 1083.8 #77 10:57PM
Not that I plan on having a kid anytime soon but I've been hoarding potential girl names! Anabelle (belle), Ariel, Violet, Giselle, Wendy, Alice, Bianca, Jane, Jasmine, Olivia and Willow are all potentials in my book. - mermaidhair
176.3 #1905 10:46PM
That is Funny that you mentioned Anabelle, because that is a potential for us because of Belle. I would prob use the nickname "Bella". Aurora loves that her name is a princess name. She likes seeing her name in the castle! - 7mouskedoodles 161.1 #2137 10:52PM
I always wanted a little girl named Isabelle or Anabelle so I could call her "bells"! A cute name for sure :-) - mermaidhair 176.3 #1905 10:59PM
Never thought of "Bells" as a nickname , another good reason for liking Anabelle! - 7mouskedoodles 161.1 #2137 11:02PM
