Good morning! This day in Disney history, Aug 21st, 1995. The PeopleMover (sponsored by Goodyear up until Dec 31st, 1981) closes @ Disneyland. Running since July 1967. Guests could board small trains that ran on elevated tracks for a "grand circle tour" above Tomorrowland. It was a high-capacity attraction. The hourly capacity was up to 4,885 guests! It was be replaced by a faster new attraction called Rocket Rods on May 22, 1998. Do you remember this attraction? Copy and paste for a video about its history:🎬 http://is.gd/nigmLw and here for a ride thru: http://is.gd/lEZox3 🎥
I so remember and miss this attraction. It was such a great way to take a break and view all of Tomorrowland. It started at what was the Tomorrowland Rockets and took you all through Tomorrowland and all the way back to where the Autopia Cars go. Through the Tron exhibit and even above the Tomorrowland store. If Disney has any heart, they will bring this attraction back and honor Walt and his Imagineers. Personally I don't think they are up to the challenge, but I throw down the gauntlet anyway. - splashphotoCM

I loved the People Mover! Guess I'm officially old since I do remember it. But I still feel like a kid. Disneyland will do that to you, won't it? - meridafan 1036.1 #83 7:42PM
Yeah, they seriously should bring it back for so many reasons. Hey, the track is already built, come on people, its a no-brainer....;) - CVDisneyland 256.9 #934 3:25AM
My grandmother always insisted we go on the Peoplemover. It was a great way to take a break and view all of Tomorrowland. Very sad that they took it out and never brought it back. - ScooterMike

I didn't even get to read your entire post, as the "more" link isn't working for me. :/ - bnbheartdisney 240.5 #1109 8:49AM
That makes me sad! I'm sorry! Did you try restarting the app? - Duchess_SMK 3288.6 #11 8:59AM
Yes and for some reason the more link isn't working on this post only. Oh well, I still enjoyed reading what I could. - bnbheartdisney 240.5 #1109 7:09PM
Thanks for this! But I gotta say I don't think I ever got to ride this attraction. - vdubmomma

Once upon a time, before Astro Blasters and Star Tours.... - ScooterMike 1959.8 #35 8:40AM
You mean they didn't always have astro boasters and star tours? You're lying! - jackskellington34 8.8 #218 9:03AM
haha. did you mean Astro Boasters, JS34?? hahaha - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint 1798.9 #42 10:54AM

1864.1 #41 9:32AM
I would SO love it if this were true! - Duchess_SMK 3288.6 #11 10:31AM
I was so bummed when they took it out. I really loved how you felt like you were going super fast through the TRON tunnel!!! The fans they had in there really helped in aiding the perception of speed! - MoreGumboPlease
201.1 #1616 1:20PM
For my fellow " old-timers" 😉...do you remember the original "speed tunnel"? In 1977 they added the speed tunnel, where race cars would zip past your Peoplemover and wind machines gave you the feeling of speed. Once Tron came out, the race cars were replaced. - Gia
785.5 #121 5:28PM
Yes! But I don't consider myself an old timer :( I'm not even 40.. :( - NotSoDapperDan 303.3 #593 10:06PM
I remember the people mover and feeling alittle scared at the part that would go by SP b/c I was too scared to ride it...ah, many moons ago. Thx for the info SMK :) - DisneyDawn

That's exactly what I ISPs to think when I rode the Peoplemover & it went by Space Mtn. - sammy.aceves 29.4 #4396 7:03PM
I miss this attraction so much! With Tron being popular again, I feel they could bring back a variation of this, heck make a 3D Tron tunnel! - Dawnsharks
8.0 #7551 8:10PM
THAT is a fun idea! I like the way you think! - Duchess_SMK 3288.6 #11 8:32PM
I Asked a cast member and he told me that they can't bring them back because the track is right in the middle of an emergency exit for buzz light year astro blasters and affects safety codes. They would have to re-do the whole buzz ride :( worth it? I think so! - lovetheland7
