...and THAT, boys and girls, is how teacher spent her summer vacation." (Back to work on Monday.)
Well as a mom who dislikes being in a classroom of other people's unruly children I am grateful for every unpaid minute and all the patience you wonderful teachers have. Blessings to an awesome new school year to you MW teachers! - 559MickeyLover

Wow! We don't start teaching until the Wednesday after Labor Day. Best of luck to you as you start up a new year. Hopefully the Back to School bad dreams haven't effected you- they get me every year! - ChurroChomper 146.7 #2334 7:58AM

May 31, 2013, at 12:34 p.m. for this teacher (but who's counting?)! LOL - susieQzee 480.9 #247 8:21AM
Sounds like a great way to spend your break!! I hope your students have good attitudes and are kind hearted! ...or I hope they are at least funny! - DiamondInTheRough

As a bonus, I just met ScooterMike in line for the tram. No pic, due to me being at maximum humidity capacity. I'm a sweaty mess. Ew. - susieQzee

It was a short but nice summer indeed!! I'm going to be so tired next week! Have a great first week back and year! Crossing my fingers it'll be an easy year, but highly doubt that lol - MarshaMouse

Wishing you a great first week, too, Marsha! See you at the parks soon. :) - susieQzee 480.9 #247 2:11AM
I am back Monday for teacher meetings, but school officially stars the 23rd. Moving from 5th to 2nd. We have been in my new room every night this week organizing and cleaning! It was disgusting! Finished at 7 tonight. Back tomorrow to do bulletin boards and desk! I want next week to just be paperwork and planning. No more sweating! - emnldsmom

The getting ready is exhausting. For most us, it's unpaid time we put into getting ready. You sound like you'll have a great year! - MarshaMouse 2871.4 #15 12:10AM
I agree! And bless my husband for spending his nights there with me, and my mom for watching the kids! Today we were there from 11-7. It is too hot but I just want it done! I hope it is a great year! I taught 2nd gr my first year teaching. So far at this school, I have taught 7-8(3 yrs), 5th(2yrs) and now onto 2nd! Oh and long term subbed 1st,lol. Maybe I can teach every grade here before I retire! - emnldsmom 189.3 #1758 12:17AM
Do you ever enlist high school students to help you? My daughter helps some teachers get their room ready each year! Sometimes at the elementary schools and sometimes at the middle school. She loves it and it gives her community service hours! - DiamondInTheRough 291.9 #660 12:17AM
Yeah, our graduates come back to help, but most don't start until this week and next! Since I taught 7th and 8th grade, I am lucky that they think of me and hunt me down! I have my stuff ready for them! Labeling my AR books and organizing my library! - emnldsmom 189.3 #1758 12:21AM
I'm glad you'll at least have some help with that! I appreciate all of the time and energy that is put into preparing for the school year, I know how many hours you folks put in over the summer and on other breaks to make it a great place for our kids... Thank you! - DiamondInTheRough 291.9 #660 12:26AM
I started as a 4/5 combo this year, brand new room, and was set up. 4pm I got a call saying I needed to move schools to second grade because a class had collapsed and I had the lowest seniority...so I had to repack, move, and reset up at a new school/grade all Friday since school starts tomorrow. It's been an emotional stressful start of the year already... - DLlovingMommy27 238.0 #1137 8:07AM
You all know the yearly ritual of going back early to work unpaid. We all do it because we have to. I'm going in tomorrow (Monday), even though our official start date is Thursday, and students return on the Monday, the 20th. I'm flipping the layout of my room by diagonal corners so as to better use my technology and to improve the flow of students. Flukefan has always been so helpful in working with me, especially in putting up my bulletin boards. I'll admit that I'm starting to get a little excited at the thought of going back. Have a terrific new year, everyone! May your rosters be filled with bright, eager minds! - susieQzee 480.9 #247 8:11AM
Aww, DLlovingmommy27, that's terrible! Hoping you find your new placement a great one! Best wishes. - susieQzee 480.9 #247 8:16AM
Oh man, that is not cool DLmommy! I would have been in tears! I hope you had a smooth move and start! - emnldsmom 189.3 #1758 9:49AM
SusieQ- I am excited to start the year too. Being in there has been hot but I feel so organize this year! I have never been ready this early! We are gettin iPads this year so we have a special training for that! I love the school supplies Shopping! - emnldsmom 189.3 #1758 9:51AM
What district are you with? :) I don't start until the 23rd for meetings. School officially starts on the 27th. - BELLEisima

Hemet Unified. :) Where are you? - susieQzee 480.9 #247 2:08AM
I am down in San Diego, right by the border. About 30% of our kids come from across the border since we are so close. We are a private school. - emnldsmom 189.3 #1758 11:56AM
We go back for staff meetings the 27th and students return the 29th. I hope they don't change my schedule since it is the best one I have had in 10 years at the school. - sr citizen space ranger

All this talk is making me wish I taught in CA. I'm in Phoenix area and I'm headed into my second full week with students. But my classes are great and I'm out before Memorial Day. Cheers to all my fellow teachers. I hope you have a good year. - ATag

Lucky duck! I don't like the first two weeks back. Teaching procedures, setting expectations, placement testing...blah! I like it once those things have been established. You've made it over that hump, so congratulations! Enjoy your year! - susieQzee 480.9 #247 8:26AM
I made it to Disneyland twice during my summer vacation, and will be heading back to work on the 17th--students come back on the 22nd. We'll be doing another trip 2 weeks in for the 1/2 marathon/Labor Day weekend. I think I'll may come down with a *cough*cough* cold for a few days to extend my vacay... - MommaMel

I taught summer school an just had a wOoping 1.5 weeks off. I start this Thursday, but already had trainings and have been planning on my time off. But when my students ask me what I did this summer, I'll say "One word: Disneyland." haha! Off to change some lives! - vanGoghsStarryNight
