***Edited***any fair price hotels in that area???****I need help from San Diego residents. We are planning to visit san Diego zoo or safari. Which one is better for a one year old? Which one is more expensive/fun? Thanx :D
If I were you, I would get a family membership for the year. It gets you into the Zoo AND the Safari Park and if you go like three times, it's more than paid off. Much cheaper than a Disney AP, that's for sure. If that's not possible, I'd go with the zoo. There's more animals, less walking, and the Safari park is inland so it's way hot right now. - LaneSparrow316

At this time of year I'd say the zoo. The safari park is way too hot. However when my kids were that age they loved the safari park. - PrincessDuckie

Zoo. Can be a lot cooler than the desert of the Wild Animal park and can't go wrong with something that is "world famous". Make sure you get there at park open (when the animals are most active). - BaseballMickey_CM

I did that this past weekend and a lot of them were still sleeping lol. Some are active in the morning, and others are active in the afternoon. - nickb92 69.6 #3417 9:08AM
I love the Safari park, but I agree with duckiefan2- it's just too hot this time of year and since you have a 1 year-old, the zoo is a far better choice. - MoonWillow

Agree! The Animal park is wicked hot right now. And the Zoo has the children's area and the shows are really cute! Have fun! - princessfrozenbanana

I agree, Zoo! Safari is so hit right now and it is more spread out. I know you can pay for the safari part to feed animals. If you are going to be down here, also look into Sea World. I know my kids have loved it since they were little! Have fun! - emnldsmom

Please go to seaworld! It's so fun! Plus if you sit in the front at shows it's a great way to cool off iin the hot weather. - mermaidhair 176.3 #1911 12:35AM
Mermaidhair omg we did that exactly but got a little water in our mouth last time ewe salty!!! Lol but yeah we had a good time feeding the dolphins :D - annjay07 134.6 #2530 12:56AM

Way too hot for Safari Park during the summer. My vote goes for SD Zoo. - PiecesOf8

ZOO! So much prettier than safari park. Many many more animals, and better shows for young ones. Enjoy! - CinderEllen

Zoo, take the bus tour for an overview, then see the birds, then everything else you have time . Science center is a short walk and has OmniMax movies. - radiator

Zoo it is!!! Thanks guys. We have been to sea world before my 1 yr old and we loved it but my hubby wants us to try out the zoo or safari. So you guys kno of any good price hotels? - annjay07

Check on hotels.com. During the summer rates for hotels near the Zoo/Sea World run at a minimum of $100, but they're hard to find. Try for something in Mission Valley (Motel 6 and Super 8 are decent and lowest in cost), or Old Town (La Quinta). - Gia 785.7 #121 10:16AM
Just to let you know both are hilly. And I agree about getting the pass. If you get the diamond pass you and your spouse get both the zoo and safari park and parking at the safari park for only $149. And the child's pass is not very expensive either. If you go to both parks on it with the free parking it's paid off. - ImAlwaysCrazy

That is a 2 person pass for the $149 not $149 each person. Also I want to state that I did it for the sake of MW to call it safari park. To me it has always been and will always be the wild animal park! - ImAlwaysCrazy 646.4 #167 12:32AM
Thx for sure i will talk to the hubby about this and yeah they just recently changed it right? - annjay07 134.6 #2530 12:59AM
You can't see pandas at the safari park so the zoo is the obvious choice! - Deltachiq

I'd say Zoo. Why? There is nowhere else you will see a Fishing Cat. =^..^= - Alicewhoareyou
536.3 #210 12:59AM
Looks just a bit larger than a house cat...smaller than a bobcat...and has webbed feet for fishing. :D - Alicewhoareyou 536.3 #210 1:07AM
Mr. Sparrow was so sad it was hiding last time we went. Good thing we saw the Secretary bird, otherwise he might have thrown a tantrum. - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #108 8:23AM
Zoo! My gf and I got the year pass in June and have gone 3 times already! 2 times zoo and 1 safari park. You have a better opportunity to see and interact with the animals at the zoo, then the safari park. - nickb92
69.6 #3417 8:34AM
get the pass, it's only like $100 for 2 people for an entire year of zoo and wild animal park. Also they give you a few free passes to take some friends. But the zoo is the better park imo - MJisMM

$55 to be exact. You buy 2 adult full day passes and get 2 annual year passes for $55. That's one heck of a deal if you ask me! Thats why I got it 😉 - nickb92 69.6 #3417 9:05AM
And also you get a booklet of coupons, like 3-4 $15 admission, 15% off food and bus tours, etc. - nickb92 69.6 #3417 9:06AM
👊👊👊 any decent priced hotels? - annjay07

I will rent you our third room for the week for some Disney food! Lol I don't think my parents would like that though. - ImAlwaysCrazy 646.4 #167 9:43PM
So funny, since I live here I am no help? Ask me about DL hotels and I would know! Hotel Circle is a good location to start. It is located near the zoo and shopping. What other things do you want to do? - emnldsmom
189.3 #1759 9:36PM
That's true silly me lol MWs encouraged me to buy an annual pass so this time we are only going for today but in the future it would be good to visit safari and sea world!!! - annjay07 134.6 #2530 11:15PM
I mean for one day not today lol - annjay07 134.6 #2530 11:16PM
I personally hate the zoo so I would tell you to go before deciding if you want a pass. We use our SeaWorld pass a lot. We have silvers and we got them at Costco for $100. Includes parking. I don't get the hype of the zoo? Maybe it is cause I am from here? - emnldsmom 189.3 #1759 11:40PM
We are mainly going because we want to take our 15 month old :) - annjay07 134.6 #2530 11:59PM
I live near the Safari Park and I say...zoo! It's been in the 100's all week. The zoo is closer to the coast which means cooler. Hotels, try Mission Valley area since it is centrally located! Good luck! - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz

Concessions at the zoo are comparable to Disneyland. - MomWithAJuiceBoxBuzz 922.3 #94 11:27PM
We always stay at Comfort Suites in Mission Valley. It is clean comfortable and priced right. - 4disneyfans
