Aug 6, 2012 1:18 PM  Disneyland Talk Land
So just short of me calling to cancel my honeymoon trip to DL, can someone please give me a current list of planned rehab closures during the time of November 11th-18th. I've seen Casey Jr. and the Storybook Canal will be closed through the 14th. Indy is set to be closed the full time, and now I've read that Thunder Mountain will be closed as well? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

seriously??!! There is so much in the parks to see than just those attractions. When rides are renovated or fixed it is usually low crowd time and you can see all the great shows, run tom sawyers island, ride all the small kid rides (classic) and don't forget DCA which is like a new park. I know you are from Florida I&M but there is plenty see and do here even with closures. - Plumiegirl  10135.2 #8 1:34PM
^This!! Plumie is so correct! - PartOfYourWorld  74.5 #4048 1:43PM
Yep, yep! - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 1:46PM
Well some of us can't go all the time, but when we do, we like to experience everything. - Disneylovesmoi  9.7 #11225 2:02PM
I can't go all the time, I'm in NorCal. I don't think there is a huge amount of time, when everything is open. Just how it is for big theme parks. But there's always SO much to do! :) 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 2:29PM
The only time everything is really open is when it's really crowded in summer - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 3:15PM
Just my two cents, but I would go anyways. I can understand you wanting to be sure Indy is open, since you've planned your trip around being able to show Marion. But Cars Land and RSR is truly amazing. You may be pleasantly surprised at how awesome it really is. I didn't think I'd care for it and now Cars Land is one of the places I can't wait to visit first when I go to the parks. And I'd go with IDVandalSkipper on the Big Thunder refurb timing being in January. I highly doubt they'd close two major attractions at the same time within the same park. Also, Holiday time is magical at DL. :) - Alicewhoareyou  2550.5 #53 2:52PM
I haven't seen any official announcement from Disney regarding these two big refurbs--it would be surprising to see both BTMRR and Indy down at the same time, IMO. Unless you're going in the middle of summer or the few weeks surrounding Christmas, it's pretty much guaranteed that you'll have a few attractions closed for refurb. So, I kinda look at it as a trade off: do you prefer to ride your favorite attractions or is a more laid back, less frantic atmosphere more important? That's something you'll have to figure out. We (my husband and I) don't get to visit DL very often, and it's expensive for us to do so, so when our favorite rides are shut down, it's a disappointment. I can certainly understand being bummed about your honeymoon trip. However, November in the parks is a real treat--you have holiday decorations going up, IASW Holiday, and Nightmare Before Christmas overlay in the Haunted Mansion. We have found that its really best for us to keep an open mind to new traditions and make way for new "favorite things." It may not be the perfect honeymoon you envision right now, but there will be new things to experience together for the first time that will make it special and it can become a different version of perfection. Just my $.02. :) 😊 Whatever you decide, congrats on the wedding and cheers to a happy, healthy, long marriage--regardless of when you take your honeymoon, it's so exciting to start a whole new phase of life! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 9:31PM
Holy moly--sorry for writing a novel! If anyone actually reads all that, they get a gold star for the day, lol🌟 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 9:33PM
Hand me a star. Nicely said! 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 9:35PM
🌟There ya go! Thanks! Guess I'm long-winded πŸ˜‚ - Spoonful_O_Sugar  613.1 #331 9:37PM
Thanks! Nah, you had good stuff to say. 😊 - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 9:51PM
πŸ‘‹πŸ˜ƒ Hi Indy! Nice to see you over on this side again. I'm not sure on the refurbs, but good luck planning everything! The trip should be everything you guys want it to be. And congratulations!! πŸ˜ŠπŸŽ‰ - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4409.0 #32 1:38PM
Hey Sic, been a while. Three, if I'm counting right...goodness. Has it been that long? - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 2:03PM
Ha! Sounds about right, crazy huh? And I think 99.9% of the people in here are new since then, as I'm sure you can tell here. πŸ˜‰ Hope you are doing well! Are you still working for the parks? (if I remember that right) 😊 - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4409.0 #32 2:21PM
No I left in 2010. Professional Photographer now. Marion is still at WDW though. Yeah, I recognize you, Westcoast aaaaand that's it. You know me though, ever since WDW came into testing and it opened, I hang out over there. - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 2:33PM
Ah that's right! ....I know, and I need to venture over to the WDW side of things more! Still haven't been to those parks so it's fun to see everyone's photos. 😊 - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4409.0 #32 3:00PM
You do need to come over. All of the photo work I do at the parks, as far as MW goes, is exclusive to that side. I mean, yes, they are on Flickr and facebook. Aside from that, you just need to come over. So much more laid back over there. - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 4:17PM
Awesome! I'll head over to the WDW side later tonight (have to work some more tonight) and check out your photos! πŸ˜ƒ - Sweet_Irish_Cream  4409.0 #32 8:29PM
Bump - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 1:25PM
I wish I could help but I don't have any info. - aidensmama  340.3 #704 1:32PM
You're going to cancel your honeymoon trip because a few attractions will be closed? - Darlingwendi  1222.7 #140 1:31PM
That's what I got... Don't do that. There are so many other attractions and fun stuff to do. - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 1:34PM
Like the amazing cars land that just opened! - ladylikesdisney  945.0 #197 1:41PM
You might try calling or emailing Guest Relations, but I agree you should go anyway and enjoy the lighter crowds and many other amazing attractions and shows - Melody_CM  13474.2 #3 1:54PM
First trip to DL for my wife. First trip together. Another trip for me, which given my situation shouldn't even be able to happen. There are a lot of reasons why I want this trip to be perfect, and it's not. It's not like we can't reschedule the trip anyway. We're from Florida, but honestly, with a snap of the finger we could go. - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 2:02PM
I think your info is correct. Thunder Mountain will be closed through 2013 for major refurb. It is a drag that Indy is closed but the crowds are super light that time of year as it's right before Christmas time. I have no doubt that your trip will be perfect despite the closures. - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  448.9 #490 2:08PM
It'll be closed through 2013 or until 2013? If it's closed until 2014 my son will be so sad. - aidensmama  340.3 #704 2:25PM
It is planned to be a long refurb. I have heard 9-11 months but it will likely be longer. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2417.2 #61 2:31PM
It will be closed for a majority of 2013. Major refurb like space mountain. It's my favorite ride too. It's closing after September I believe. - DisneyBrideΒ°OΒ°  448.9 #490 2:31PM
He's just upset because he won't be able to see Indy. He'll be fine in a day or two. But seriously Indy, you've been before right? There's lots to do and CA is expanded. Plus maybe you'll visit some of the non-Disney parks as well? Do a search for So. Cal. City Pass if you're thinking of doing that. - Westcoast  174.6 #2324 2:14PM
I was there in 07 and 09. Whole reason why we planned it during this time period was because of Indy, POTC and Mansion Holiday. Marion has been absolutely dying to go on Indy. We're not really a fan of CARS, so we might walk through the area but honestly, we might skip Radiator Springs (DCA would only be for World of Color and so she can see this version of Tower of Terror. I might update a few photos there around the park. It'll be nice to see the changes, or additions, (however we should say it) to the entrance since that was started after I last went. It'll mainly be DL for us. Might go to LA to see shuttle Endeavour and say hello to her since I haven't seen her since my time working at the space center. Other than that...Not much else. - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 2:38PM
You're going to have so much fun and it's your honeymoon. Plus you'll get to hang out with all the MWers. You'll just have to come back for an anniversary to do Indy later. Fun is a mindset. - Westcoast  174.6 #2324 2:54PM
I would highly advise against skipping radiator springs. You may not be a fan of Cars but the workmanship is amazing and truly something everyone at the park should at least see once. - aidensmama  340.3 #704 2:56PM
Even with the couple of rides that will be closed...it is such a wonderful time to go. Haunted Mansion is dressed for Christmas, among others. semi lite crowds, and it's disneyland. What more do you want. congratulations on your upcoming wedding. - MyEeyore  229.3 #1618 2:22PM
Thunder is not planned to close until January, after holiday season and after Indy returns. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2417.2 #61 2:30PM
This is what I have heard, and I don't believe that they would close Indy and Thunder at the same time. - IDVandalSkipperCM  2417.2 #61 2:36PM
I cry thinking of BTMRR closing.... 😒😒 - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 2:39PM
My son and I will be crying too. 😒😭πŸ˜ͺ - aidensmama  340.3 #704 2:41PM
It's my favorite ride (yes I said it) in the park. Was hoping to train there before it goes down. We'll see if that happens! - IDVandalSkipperCM  2417.2 #61 3:15PM
Even with those ride closures you'll still have a great time, I guarantee it or your money back - Vegaspooh  134.7 #2968 2:47PM
I understand you want your first trip together to be perfect, and missing Indy would be a bummer, but don't let it ruin your whole plans! Even if you aren't a fan of Cars, you shouldn't skip RSR either. I'm not a big fan of cars, but the ride is amazing. There is still plenty for you guys to experience together. I don't think you should postpone your trip because of one attraction, but that's just my opinion - MEHlanie_Mouse  1116.0 #162 2:51PM
Wow gotta enjoy them now before they close yikes! Thanx for the info guys :D - annjay07  170.5 #2400 2:53PM
(Psst! I have a post on the Indy closure. Just search my name :) ) - IDVandalSkipperCM  2417.2 #61 3:10PM
^^^ thank you for the info so now I kno I have August 20 to sept 4th to enjoy. 3 month without it wow :( - annjay07  170.5 #2400 11:08PM
My family always goes in the off season. It is so pleasant being there when it isn't packed. Of course that often means there are closures but overall I think I would rather it that way. I will miss one or two attractions because they are closed than miss them because the lines are long and the crowds are overwhelming. GO! There are still a lot of things to see and do! - AKMouse  490.6 #434 3:13PM
Yep this is pretty much how I saw it. That's why we only bought the so cal select ap. plus I have a 1 yr old and being in long lines is A no no. - annjay07  170.5 #2400 11:09PM
Go to Disneyland Paris. πŸ˜‰ - bluefairy  643.8 #312 3:19PM
I totally understand that feeling when your fav ride is down. I've been many times when pirates was closed, and I still did have fun. If it's really important to you maybe you can push it out of few weeks? We actually had our honeymoon Disney trip before our wedding. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 3:35PM
In my line of work, pushing it out a few weeks is completely deadly. - IndyandMarion  1278.9 #4 4:16PM
Ahem: "It's not like we can't reschedule the trip anyway. We're from Florida, but honestly, with a snap of the finger we could go." πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ - bluefairy  643.8 #312 8:21PM
Lol, bluefairy! I'm confused now. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 9:07PM
So, go to WDW. ;-)πŸ˜œπŸ˜‚ - SueBayou  2019.0 #78 8:41PM
πŸ˜‚ - DisneyFanZoe  1249.3 #135 8:59PM
Hi Indy. Hope your special occasion goes well - E-Ticket  1466.6 #115 9:06PM
Hey Indy! Like others have said, there should be plenty for you guys to see/do. Even though some attractions will be closed for refurb, that just gives you some more time to take it slow and really pay attention to details. I think you guys can definitely make the best out of it, plus it's your honeymoon! Best of luck on whatever you decide to do 😊 - LBChica  2437.4 #59 9:38PM
I'm really bummed when rides are down, especially several. But honestly Carsland is worth the trip alone. I hope you can figure something out - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 9:38PM
Wait Casey Jr. is going to be closed soon? - HanLostLeia  1098.3 #165 9:47PM
They need to bring back that second train though!!! It's been forever!! - MarshaMouse  5036.0 #25 10:40PM
I'm so sorry! Indy is my favorite ride, and I would be so bummed to hear it's closed during my vacation! I would definitely venture into DCA. The new Buena Vista Street is really beautiful, and Cars Land is really well done. RSR is not like Test Track despite what others may say. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for you. :P Also, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree is the sleeper hit of Cars Land in my opinion. Christmas time is beautiful in DL, and you'll be on your honeymoon! That's always a positive! I'm sorry you can't reschedule, but I know you'll make the best of it and have a wonderful vacation! :D - thelittlestmouse  95.4 #73 10:27PM
