Good morning MW! This day in Disney history July 31st, 1955. The Casey Jr. Circus Train (based on the the circus train that transported Dumbo & the rest of the circus from town to town) debuts! The train was due to open w/the rest of the park on July 17, but it wasn't operating properly. As you can see, there wasn't much to look at back then. Lots of dirt. The miniature buildings & landscaping will not be built for another year or so.

Part of the reason it didn't end up that way was that the train rolled backwards (and I think even derailed!) during tests. I read that at the train exhibit at the gallery a few months back. 😉 - bluefairy 627.1 #174 1:23AM
Oh, and it was actually a merry go round. When they use animals other than horses, it's a merry go round. The benches and animals were replaced with horses and now of course, it's a carousel. I don't know why tritons is called a carousel, though. 😏 - bluefairy 627.1 #174 1:26AM
