So , my son is a first grader. Has been an average reader. We go to dl for a week- he brings his "readers" - blows thru them ,,,, we buy him some "chapter books " in downtown disney. He now plows thru a chapter book in 3-4 days. I think the ability was always there , but the awakenining of the imagination and the senses brought his capabilities out to shine . Thank you mr. Disney for inspiring in ways even you may not have imagined. (btw same thing happened four years ago when he was too with his talking. He went from "baby" before wdw to a full sentence constantly talking language king in a week) sorry so long -- I get testy eyed thinking about it. 

That's so awesome! Very cool how he was inspired.  - CravingDisney  150.1 #2290 6:54PM
The Diary series did it for a lot of kids...kind of flipped on their reading switch. Whatever it takes... It's great when kids get into reading. - Dimo  66.3 #3465 6:55PM
My girls are now 16 and 18 and they still are always reading a book. - PieEyedMickey  296.6 #626 6:57PM
Got to find the hook my first graders like Magic Treehouse and Junie B Jones books. - Dizkid  284.2 #704 6:57PM
Wow! That's great. My son has a speech delay and his therapist was curious what would happen when we took him out of his programs for 10 days for our Disney trip. When he returned his speech therapist told me he could see a big difference in his language and sentence building. Gotta love that magical place! - Suzie-Q  434.3 #288 6:57PM
That's awesome. I love when kids really start to enjoy reading. Same thing happened to my son. It was the Jack Sparrow books for kids that worked for him.  - Sunny  781.6 #121 6:58PM
Junie b. Jones is awesome! That's what got my daughter going. - CravingDisney  150.1 #2290 6:59PM
Thanks guys. He keeps his maps on his desk to help himself with the spelling of the rides to use in his journal writing. He wrote FIVE pages his first day back after vacation. Six years old. I'm a proud mama. Thanks for letting me brag  - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:00PM
I love when the "light bulb" comes on for reading!!! So cool!!! My boys absolutely blew through the Diary of A Whimpy Kid books way before the movie...then the movie came out and they read them again!!! - RoyannaF  376.6 #363 7:00PM
@dizkid - magic schoolbus got him going , now he's on to magic treehouse ( he has his eye on the stink series next / judy moodys brother) - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:02PM
@Suzie-q. That is a great story thanks for sharing. Again- it's like a hidden magic within the magic!  - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:04PM
I agree about the magic. There is something about the park and being together...it opens minds and the heart. - Suzie-Q  434.3 #288 7:10PM
Thanks for sharing this story!!!! I still read my Disney books and last year for my 28th bday I got a Disney collection from my bff because she was worried about me not reading anymore since I took a break after graduating from college! - MozPrincess  577.4 #189 7:14PM
That's awesome!! Congrats to your son!! :) - Amanda  120.4 #2733 7:16PM
@suzi q. I agree. It's like he stepped thru the gates and broke through his own barriers - twice now out of his three trips . Is it a coincidence - well- not in my book /. Makes me have goosebumps talking about it - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:26PM
Hugs to all for taking the time to read and your sweet comments  wishing you all a magical moment  - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:28PM
Definitely not a coincidence. It opens the imagination and so much more. I am so glad for all the children who get the opportunity to experience it. I hope your son continues to truly experience the magic. - Suzie-Q  434.3 #288 7:31PM
My son reads a ton. He's into captain underpants right now. I joined a online book swap because he's costing a fortune! I love that he reads. Good job mom! Keep him reading - CharLovey  179.6 #1872 7:31PM
Ahhh. The world became bigger for your son. How beautiful! - Maj  10.4 #6628 7:34PM
Smiling  bc of you fab folk watching the sense of pride when they finish a book is pretty amazing. Now my daughter is enjoying passing down her favorites. She really used to love the boxcar children series when she was in second grade. That series almost seems like it could lend itself to the magic of Disney moviemaking. Anyone elses kids read these. They are am old series - not that I ever read them - lol  - Pariswk  11.0 #6476 7:57PM
I read them as a kid - loved them! Weren't they the burgundy hard backs? My mom still has them I think. - CravingDisney  150.1 #2290 8:04PM
@ Paris. I will look into the reading suggestion! Thank you. - CharLovey  179.6 #1872 8:05PM
That gives me chills! How proud are you? Soo awsomeDisney magic - Mickeyshell  274.7 #783 8:07PM
That's so awesome Paris! I feel the same too about speech and creative development for my 3 year old. He has a slight speech and conmunication delay but once we introduced some of the Disney movies, books, music and how they relate to what he sees, touches, feels and hears in DL, his vocabulary improved tenfold. Now if he can just pronounce "Disneeeewand" correctly...  - Polkadobo  372.1 #371 8:18PM
