After some extensive research (google), here is the connection: "In 1926, Frank Tenney Johnson completed his first three large-scale murals, created as the main drop curtain and a pair of wing additions to frame it on either side. These were created for the Carthay Circle movie theatre in Los Angeles, during the height of the Grand Movie Palace era. The large (30 by 40 feet) central drop curtain was a work depicting the "The Donner Party Crossing the High Sierra." The smaller wing extensions, designed to cover the organ chamber and the other wing entrance to the stage, are known to have measured 18 by 11 feet each.
