Hi MW friends, I am hoping all of your combined knowledge can give me some input to help a family that is very close to me. Kurtis is going through his second bout of brain cancer, the first time it was operable and doctors thought they got it all. Fast forward to 3 years later, in less than 3 months between MRIs the cancer is back, was supposed to be operated on today...but last night the hospital did another MRI, found that it has advanced to stage 4 cancer. Here is where I am hoping you all have some knowledge to help, Kurtis is now 19, and his last wish is to have an amazing family trip to Disneyland. The family is going through tough times (his Dad had recently been laid off and Mom only gets part time hours at her job). That being said, does anyone know contact information for an organization that might help me make Kurtis wish come true? Thanks in advance for any info/help so I can help our good friends.
I am so very sorry to hear this. Have you looked into Make a Wish, I'm not sure if they have age requirements. I had a cousin a few years younger than me who was diagnosed with neuroblastoma when she was sixteen. Her family had never been able to afford to go to Disneyland so my dad took her, her two sisters and my aunt and uncle. Unfortunately she lost her battle several months later but I take some comfort in knowing that she was able to experience true Disney magic at least once. I really hope you are able to give this experience to your friend, what a noble thing to do. - MightyWhitey

The rest of the family and my husband and I are working to put a fundraiser together in our local area. We figured we can pitch in and hopefully raise enough to send them. It is awesome that your family did the same for your cousin. - HpplyEvrAftr 221.9 #1335 1:01PM
Definitely contact the Make A Wish foundation! They are amazing at making dreams come true for kids! My prayers are with him and his family :) - disneymomi

I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. I'm not any help as I don't have any clue to who to call. But I really hope his wish can come true!!! - SleepyTortuga

You may want to try Make A Wish. They are currently in the middle of making some kids' wishes come true at WDW with Kurt Warner and his family. There are other organizations out there that do something similar but I believe the family has to submit to a long application process. Have the family speak with Kurtis' doctor to see if there is anything he can do to help. I know there are some pediatric doctors here in Las Vegas that have connections to foundations or organizations that can help. - KermitFan13

Thank you all for the ideas to call Make A Wish, I wasn't sure about age requirement being as he is now technically an adult, I will definitely try them - HpplyEvrAftr

I am sorry to hear that. I would also suggest speaking with someone at the hospital maybe. I have had my own cancer experience and the hospital I go to has some amazing counselors and programs. I bet they could steer you in the right direction. I will say a prayer for him. - matildamouse
