I have never personally stayed there but I highly doubt the rooms are horrible. One it's Disney and they have a a high standard and two I see a lot of MWs on here saying a lot of good things. It's hard to hold a trip advisor review as the standard, some people have ridiculous expectations and give a bad review even though it probably had a lot to do with their attitude. I say go for it! It won't be the same as the Grand, since it's considered the most economical of the three DL hotels, but there's no way it will be horrible--it's operated by Disney, not the Travel Lodge, lol. Like others have been saying, I highly doubt Disney would operate a horrible hotel. Some people on those reviews are reeeaaally picky. Or maybe I am just very unpicky.  I have never stayed at Paradise Pier but I have always heard nothing but great reviews from people that I know or from what I have read on MW.  If you are have having second thoughts try to call and get it changed.
