I've got a question for MW good photographers. I'll define good as you have had at least 10 thank you tags on at least 10 pics in the lounge. Do you think you have always had a pretty good eye for taking pics? Was it something you developed, and if so, how?
Oh, and Tom, the majority of users on here thank a pic just cause it has a castle in it. Doesn't make the person who took the photo a great photographer - we have a group that is easily impressed by Disney stuff lol. So, for your first assignment take a night pic of the castle. - HotDiggityDogDaddy

I'm not a photographer, but if you can afford your camera, and not deny your family (if you have one) of basic needs. If your bills are paid, and you do the things you are suppose to do, then there really isn't a need to justify your purchase by the number of thank you received. Every now and then it is ok to treat yourself to something that makes you happy. It is good for your mental health. In my mind, as long as the priorities in your life have been met, then get the camera. Life is too short, and can change in a moment to live with regrets. - Sugarbuzz

I have good reasons for asking. The short version is I would like to improve a lot so I can justify buying a dslr I have my eye on. - Tom

Read up online on composition and how to use the creative shot features of your camera and you can build your skills. Learn the Sunny 16 rule. I don't have any thank yous on pics cause I stopped posting pics long before the thank you system was put in place. - HotDiggityDogDaddy 1112.2 #74 7:46PM
I'm pretty sad right now. The deal I made with myself is if I took at least three really good pics this eve with my bridge camera, I was going to buy a dslr package deal tomorrow. I have zero good pics. 😢 - Tom

frame up pics with a tree. don't be afraid to take a partial pic. just snap away- that's the beauty of digital. take pics of things you have not noticed before. show us a sample, if you like :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint 1799.3 #42 7:59PM
* i don't mean that ALL pics need to be taken with a tree, just an example :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint 1799.3 #42 7:59PM
Thank you everyone! I really appreciate your advice! 👍 - Tom

Just have fun with it!!! Your pics don't have to be perfect!! My hubby bought me my first DSLR for Christmas. I had been wanting one forever but I always thought it was too expensive. He knew how much I loved photography, so he surprised me and got me it. My grandpa was a professional photographer, so that's where my love for it started. I still have a lot to learn. If its something you love, go get that camera!! Then you will have a reason to practice!!! If you live in the area, you should come to our MW photo meet up. We've only had one and it was a while ago. But it was a lot of fun and I learned some great tips. Hopefully we have another one soon. So tomorrow, go get your camera!!!! - caramiapoohAKAface 1449.4 #54 9:51PM
