Dearest Mousewaiters, I would like to give you an update on Princess Daisy Rachel Young. First and foremost thanks to each and every single one of you for your thoughts, prayers, love, and support. It has been such a blessing and comfort to her and her family and has really lifted all of our spirits turning this difficult time. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts and souls, words cannot express our gratitude and appreciation. Second, I must apologize for the lack of updates but there are just so many issues I have had to deal with in addition to the situation and time and energy has been scarce. As for Rachel, she is “improving” everyday. She is in a Rehab center called HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Albuquerque, 7000 Jefferson Street North East Albuquerque NM 87109. She is still unable to walk however, she does have some movement in her right leg but it is only from her knee down, she is still unable to use her hips, or has any feeling in her left leg. This is because her spinal cord is still swollen and the nerves are not able to fire correctly. She is no longer confined strictly to a bed, but lacks the stamina and energy to be out of it for a long amount of time. She is on a full regiment of physical and occupational therapy 5 days a week, but pushes herself to 6-7.She is a fighter. She is using a wheelchair and is becoming more independent every day. She can do almost anything you can imagine (though gingerly) by herself. She continues to stay positive, however with her type of injury there is simply no way of knowing what the outcome may be. She may gain everything back, some of it back, or none of it back. It may take 12 weeks, 12 months, or 12 years there is simply no way of knowing all we can do is continue to wait and PRAY. But she continues to push and work hard in her therapy and is making great strides. She is scheduled to be released on May 18th, but unless her Medicade comes through, she will be released to a skilled nursing facility instead of home. Please continue to pray for the swelling in her spinal cord to go down, her nerves to heal, and feeling to return, also that her Medicade comes through so that she can at least come back home.
