Is blue bayou worth the price? My DH says when he went years and years ago the food was bland. I've never eaten there and would love to go for my birthday. Would you recommend lunch or dinner? What entrees?

I think it's worth it. I know of no other restaraunt that has that atmosphere. For me that makes it worth it alone, however I have had their steak, chicken and crab cakes so many times and not once have I ever experienced them screwing it up and I am picky. - madsdad  1229.2 #67 9:15AM
^^^ listen to Mr. Martha Stewart. If he gives it a thumbs up, you gotta try it. 😂 - Fanatic4Disney  258.3 #937 9:20AM
I agree. If I'm only paying for the atmosphere, I'd gladly do it. And I thought the food was just fine. - DisneyFanZoe  1099.6 #74 9:23AM
I agree- except my fav is the monte cristo! Plus free dessert for birthday/ graduation!!! - SteamboatMinnie  310.1 #577 10:39AM
I've yet to try the monte cristo, I have a hard time eaty a salty/sweet combo, I may see if they will make it without the jam or powdered sugar, although someday I will have to give it a shot! - madsdad  1229.2 #67 10:41AM
It's more sweet than salty. Very sweet actually. I can only eat 1 of them, then it's just too much. You need to try one, just to say you did. 😊 :) - DisneyFanZoe  1099.6 #74 10:55AM
Unfortunately I agree with your hubby. Imho Cafe Orleans is basically the same restaurant but less expensive and a bit broader menu. The inside is very beautiful and very relaxing though-and that's what your paying for. - JNewie  226.4 #1311 7:33AM
Agree! I didn't like it either - PrinceTeaJack  804.2 #120 7:35AM
I agree :) You pay for the atmosphere, not necessarily the food. It's worth it for a lot of people, but I prefer Cafe Orleans. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 7:45AM
I actually really enjoy it there. I've eaten at Café Orleans as well and the menu does have a couple of the same items but not an exact menu copy. I love the salad that comes before dinner, it is delicious! I've also really enjoyed the jambalaya, crab cakes and salmon entrees. I say try it once, the atmosphere makes the experience! - LisaMouse7531  409.4 #325 7:50AM
I'm going to try to reply to a comment because my comments are not showing up. We've had an excellent experience every time. Great atmosphere, service and food. We request a table by the water when we check-in. That's what they tell me when I make reservations over the phone. We love it and think it's worth it. - Fanatic4Disney  258.3 #937 8:50AM
Well, everyone knows how I feel about Blue Bayou. My mother took me there for the first time when I was 10 I believe. It made such a huge impression on me. I fell in love. The surf n turf is my favorite. The gumbo is fantastic. The service is always great. It's a must do! 😃 - SueBayou  2012.0 #35 9:11AM
Also, they told us that it would be a longer wait for waterside table and we've never had to wait more than 30 mins. Even during mid December. - Fanatic4Disney  258.3 #937 9:15AM
I unfortunately didn't like it either - lisaw  96.3 #3118 7:57AM
Let me add this though - If you do want to go call TODAY and make water reservations because they fill up way in advance and you have to sit by the water on your first time! Lunch/Dinner doesn't really matter (always evening inside) except lunch is a little less. Oh and I do love me some Monte Cristo! - JNewie  226.4 #1311 8:10AM
I called the other day for reservations and asked for a waterside table and she said I would need to get there 15 min early to request that. is that not true? should I call back and confirm??? - shellbelle  28.6 #4520 8:51AM
Honestly, we've done everything they told us to reserve a waterside table twice, now. Requested it, showed up early before our reservation time, etc. Both times, they ended up seating us by the door and told us it would be another 30-45 minute wait if we wanted a waterside table. Both times we've just left and eaten at CO. We don't even try anymore, lol. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 8:55AM
When we go it has always been for celebrations...and making the reservations they say they will "note it" We always popped by a couple hours before our seating to stress we want water and that we will be back 20 min before. It has always worked. That being said it's been almost two years since the last time we have eaten there - JNewie  226.4 #1311 9:17AM
k thanks for the info - shellbelle  28.6 #4520 11:16AM
The food has always been good. But the prices have gotten way over the top. There used to be a time you could go in and have soup, salad and dessert, but now it's all entree's. You are paying for the atmosphere. I highly recommend the Napa Rose as prices are very close. Cafe Orleans is very good and their Monte Cristo is about half that of the BB. However, is my wife wanted to dine there for her birthday, I would oblige her wish. Everyone should eat there once. Have a Happy Birthday. - splashphotoCM  881.2 #104 8:42AM
*hands you an "atmosphere"* - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 8:43AM
The Surf and Turf is my fave and their clam chowder is awesome. My family has eaten there for years and the food has always been good. - splashphotoCM  881.2 #104 8:48AM
Aw, man--you edited, lol! Now my comment makes no sense! 😂 - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 8:49AM
My full comment didn't post so I had to edit it, sorry lol. I thought you meant Had you at atmosphere - splashphotoCM  881.2 #104 9:16AM
Lol! - Spoonful_O_Sugar  439.1 #288 9:17AM
There is a trick to getting in even without a reservation............. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 8:48AM

DM me. It's our 39th anniversary during the reunion. - splashphotoCM  881.2 #104 9:18AM
39th? That's awesome, congrats! 😃 - DisneyFanZoe  1099.6 #74 9:23AM
Will do. Of ourselves try to get a reservation. I'll DM you in a little bit. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:13AM
And here's an early HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! ✨✨✨✨✨. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:18AM
Hope you got my message. Also when making that inquiry, might I suggest that you mention that is a very special occasion. Oh and just got that you got it. The trick works. Have done it several times. Best with a smaller party that can sit at one table. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:45AM
You have a designated hitter? - Mouse4life  1086.2 #78 9:26AM
He's partially right, it used to be pretty bland and uninspired. With recent changes in menus though, it's finally living up to the hype. My biggest personal complaint though is the seating. If you aren't by the water, the tables are so close together you will constantly be bumped by diners walking past you. - mandigutterrose  156.4 #2242 9:50AM
I personally love it there. I feel that the ambiance really is amazing especially if you can get a water front table. I personally have not been since its re-open in November but I have always enjoyed the wedge salad and the prime-rib some type of steak. personally I am not a fan of the desserts but I felt that the service was great and the food was pretty darn good:) - BooEve123  800.9 #121 10:16AM
My husband and daughter and I ate there just a few weeks ago and it was excellent. The food was great, the atmosphere was wonderful (even toward the back), and the service was top notch. I called Disney Dining that morning and got a reservation. My only complaint was that we sill had to wait about a half hour after our reservation time to be seated. - mrsdanaalvarez  277.5 #767 10:29AM
I remember eating there over twenty years ago and thinking the food was not that great. I have eaten there twice in the last 5 months or so, and can say the food is now great. I think Disney figured out they had to step up the quality. Plus you can't beat the atomosphere - ScooterMike  1959.8 #37 10:32AM
If I recall correctly, - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:51AM
Dang. Last the rest of what I was typing. Anyways, if I recall correctly, approximately six years ago there was a new food feller that revamped most every menu, taking into thought dietary restrictions and palate choices. The foods all over the resort have improved immensely. Myself I have never experienced anything bad there. Just plates and tables full of neato. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:54AM
You will notice that many folks around you while you dine are celebrating a special occasion. Something about that just fils me with lots of happy. I've been known to ask or their bill and cover it for them. Yeah Imma goofball like that. I hope that you can go. I judtblurve me some Club 31. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:56AM
You're the bestest ever Butter. - DisneyFanZoe  1099.6 #74 10:57AM
And here I go again. If you can visit during a holiday, there are often times special seasonal choices. - Butterlina  1313.6 #63 10:57AM
The atmosphere rules. My waving arm is pumped up and ready for a water side table. - Bo22  347.5 #432 10:52AM
It's definitely worth trying at least once. I thought the food was really good (the chocolate cake was outstanding), but because of the prices, I may not go back for a while. The AP discount does help. - robin_sparkles  293.8 #660 11:33AM
My comments keep disappearing too so i had to do a reply. Thanks to everyone for your replies! I'm going to browse the menus again and check out napa rose, that might be nice too! - disneymommy0910  233.9 #1209 12:07PM
