Opinions wanted- So we are taking my daughter and a friend to disneyland for her 16th birthday. We are so stoked. Question is- do we keep it a total surprise or tell her now? If i surprise her i will have to destroy her first. She is smart and thinks she is on to us. So i will have to crush her dreams them go for the big reveal. On the other hand if we surprise her now her and her friends have a month to talk about it and get all excited and whacked out. Thoughts?

You should give her little hints and watch her get excited EVERY day!!! - MozPrincess  577.4 #190 7:30AM
Surprise her. - my-unbirthday1025  165.8 #2075 7:30AM
Just tell her and tell her you will take it back if she doesn't do all her chores. - HotDiggityDogDaddy  1112.2 #74 8:08AM
Use this one. Your house will be spotlessz! Hehe! - Deltachiq  969.0 #90 10:21AM
Teens are too smart to fall for this one. :) - PeachKay  310.6 #558 11:51AM
BTW for my 16th birthday my parents were telling me I was getting something with a motor in it. It was a stationary mixer.  - DuffysJuju  627.4 #173 10:24AM

When my mom try's to suprise me (I'm 16) she tells me I'm going I am different place. But a place that requires te same sort of clothing :) - Raeofsunshine  10.6 #6580 2:28PM
*that was taking not raking! - DlandDude  262.1 #897 7:28AM
I would buy the tickets hid them somewhere in her room. Make her work to find out. When the day comes go in her room with a additude like she did something wrong, if she hasn't found the tickets yet. Thrash her room and hid the tickets again. You will know when she finds the tickets and the note you left. Seems mean but It worked out fantastic for me. I realized the more you are mad at them the more the wonder why. - kansas58  4.9 #10656 7:50AM
Huh? - Minnis2Society  360.0 #391 10:56AM
Aww Sweet 16! What a fantastic gift!!! I think that I would want to be surprised. Maybe talk to the parents of her friend and tell them it is a surprise for BOTH girls and that maybe have fake-out plans for THEIR family that day. That way friend's sched is cleared and it won't slip out. Have fun whatever way you decide!! Keep us posted on what you DO do :) - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.8 #42 7:57AM
Right now we have the other parents on board. We have told my daughter sorry we cant afford it right now. Hehe i played a little main street loop on the way to school to rub some salt in the wound. Like i say i ll have to break her down in order to surprise her. She knows me all too well and knows how cool i think this trip will be - DlandDude  262.1 #897 8:00AM
Perfect!! you know your daughter. keep it up. *insert Ursula's EVIL laugh!!!!* - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  1802.8 #42 8:05AM
Ouch! That hurt if my dad told me so. - RapunzalK  180.1 #1862 8:06AM
Awesome! Keep playing it down (being sympathetic of course) that way, it will make the news all the more sweeter :) have a fantastic time! - DisneyDawn  415.6 #310 8:12AM
I would tell her and give her the additional gift of being excited and allowing her and her friend time to plan what they want to do and see. Personally I'm not big on toying with other people's feelings and emotions, but, that's just me. - mike714  335.0 #453 10:09AM
Rent a brand new looking car, put the tickets on the dash board. Park the car in the driveway, point and say, "There's your birthday present!" She will freak out and say, "I'm getting a car!?!?!?" Then you point again and say, "No, but your present is over there." Let her find the tickets on the dash board. Is that too evil? - DuffysJuju  627.4 #173 10:23AM
So fun! I have done it both ways. Personally i think the anticipation of a trip to Disneyland is part of the fun! Do something fun to tell her! If you are staying in a Disney hotel be sure to tell them you are celebrating her birthday! They had balloons and a birthday pin for my daughter waiting in our room! We also did the fun Mickey/Minnie birthday party at Plaza Inn. Everyone gets a small cake to decorate and dancing and photo op w mickey and Minnie. It's pretty reasonably priced and lots of fun, even for teenagers! I hope y'all have a BLAST! - brittandkell  288.6 #679 10:52AM
Don't crush her just so you can surprise her. I'm going to quote John knightley: "I hate surprises. The inconvenience is considerable and the pleasure is never enhanced." Let her enjoy the planning. For me, it's 15% of the fun. - LittleAprilShowers  471.8 #257 10:57AM
Tell her now. Planning is great fun for teenagers. - ready4vacation  8.8 #7229 11:33AM
I would tell her now. The anticipation & planning are a big part of the excitement. - Hesatalkintome  26.9 #4536 11:46AM
I would surprise her about a week before the trip so she can be sure she has everything she wants to bring (clothes, etc) and to let the excitement build. Have a wonderful trip!!! - Linzee  518.9 #225 11:47AM
Ugh! So many good points to consider. I dont want to be a jerk and ruin her or anything. But, you have to understand, its been a year since we went to the parks but the year we had a pass she got to go 21 days. Thats a lot seeing as we are from out of state. She knows the park, she is in love with disneyland like many of us here. I know she will freak out if i pull off the surprise, but it would be fun to anticipate the trip for the next 30 days as well. - DlandDude  262.1 #897 11:49AM
Can you just plan a "family" party for the day you leave. And just tell her you that's all you can do this year. And then for the "party" tell her there's no party surprise! Or if your leaving in the morning tell her your going to breakfast for her bday and then tell her when you get in the car or almost to airport? She will know your lying if you tell her your not doing anything. So if your going to surprise her have to have a small pretend party or special plan. - Minnis2Society  360.0 #391 11:55AM
My vote is to tell her. That way she can plan all of the fun things she might want to do. Maybe surprise her with something like dinner at Blue Bayou? - DoombuggyRider  13.5 #5926 11:52AM
Update-- so our trip is set! Hotel booked, her friends parents are in on it. So we will skip the last day of school an travel down to cali straight to dland. Spend 3 days having a blast. My wife and i, as well as our good friends will celebrate our anniversaries. Our daughter will have he 16th bday plus my bro n law is proposing to his girlfriend!! Alot going on, but it will be sweet. Last night i told her we wernt going to be able to go she cried for like 30 min. Ugh---- but the surprise will be worth it she will freak out. Her friends parents are loving the surprise as well. The last thing to figure out is the big reveal oh and how im telling the other 4 kids they are staying home with grandma!!!! - DlandDude  262.1 #897 1:36PM
I love disney surprises on youtube so record it (: - lina1990  120.9 #2720 2:08PM
UPDATE- May 16. Only 7 more days until we leave. My daughter has no clue. Sadly she has shed many tears thinking we are not able to go. I am the "dream crusher". LOL she made a video that was creative and it shows walts famous quote and pics of us at dland. At the end it says coming soon.... And she animated a map of us going from here to there. I dont know how she figures this stuff out! SO to surprise her and her friend i am making a new ending to her video and showing it at her video night this weekend. She is going to freak!!!!! I'll see if i can upload it when its done. I can't wait to see her face. :-) - DlandDude  262.1 #897 4:43PM
