Question for all you southern Cali residents... I'm thinking of renting a car during our disneyland trip next week because I'd really like to go to the beach. But being that I'm an Oregonian I don't know anything about the beaches down there and where they are in relation to DL. I'm looking for recommendations on which would be the best beach(es) to visit with my 5 year old son. Thanks guys!
Huntington Beach and/or Newport Beach are great - and only about 30 minutes away -- my first choice is always Huntington - great main street, great pier, surfs to watch... have fun. - rdaann

Went to Huntington beach this summer with my girls(softball tournament) it was great and can't wait to go back - lisaw 96.3 #3074 10:39AM
I agree. Huntington Beach on the Main Street is the best to visit to get that great CA beach feeling. There are great shops, restaraunts and the pier is cool. On Tuesday nights they block off the street for cool vendors/farmers market and the surf shops have sidewalk sales on tee's etc. Then Laguna "Main" Beach would be my second choice. - DesperateMousewife

I say drive up to Santa Barbara and visit there. Then continue up HWY 1 to San Simeon and ending at Monterey Bay to visit the aquarium where you'll see the famous Canery Row featured in a window presentation at the wharf in DCA. - HotDiggityDogDaddy

Manhattan Beach, if you want less touristy and nicer, and still only 30-40 mins from the parks! - Normstar

Awesome thank you! I will look into those beaches... I know I have heard of Huntington Beach before. We will probably be driving to San Diego too, so any beaches between DL and San Deigo worth stopping at? Oh and so how practical is it to drive the coast highway to San Diego instead of I-5? Seems like it would be a lot more beautiful, but maybe a much slower drive? I dont know how it compares to the coast hwy up here! - jalensmommy

I would have to say stop at San Clemente if u take the Amtrak at Angels stadium it will drop u off right on the beach it's a fun experience - princessVanessa 382.5 #352 10:34AM
If you want to see the coast down to San Diego, I too would suggest taking the Surfliner train. It rides along the coast. You can stop along the way, like in San Clemente, and then hope back on. Once you get into San Diego, you can take the trolly around. Seaport Village down in San Diego is fun for kids. If you wanted to drive the coast, it will take you a lot longer. PCH stops at the end of San Clemente and you have to take the 5 freeway for most of the way. - caramiapoohAKAface 1449.2 #54 10:50AM
There are a lot of nice beaches along the way to SD that you can stop at. DM me your email address and I'll get you all the info you need. I love the beach, so I can tell you where to go and any other info you need. - caramiapoohAKAface 1449.2 #54 10:53AM

Newport Beach and have a nice lunch at Perry's Pizza. Or pack your own lunch and hit Corona Del Mar. Corona Del Mar is very family friendly and the waves never get big due to the breakers. - Art2D2
