Apr 14, 2012 7:03 PM  Disneyland Talk Land
I know ages of young children being taken to the park by eager parents has caused some debate here in the past, so I'm going to try to pose my question slightly differently. We've decided we absolutely won't be taking our baby to the parks but I was wondering: When were your kids actually able to recall details of their trips to Disneyland later than just the next day? We'd like to take advantage of free entry and time with certain elderly family members, but I'm not sure when getting a pass for the little one would be of benefit to more than just us as parents.

I think 3 and under is mostly parent memories for their kids, and 4 and up the kids have more memories for themselves - Villescas8  601.0 #303 7:06PM
I still remember my first trip and I was around 4. To this day I can recall my first time on POTC with my dad. - PrincessLeia  303.1 #818 7:38AM
Idk yet what she'll recall but we've taken our daughter since she was about 15 months old and is now 2-1/2. She knows Disneyland. She asks to go. She remembers things I didn't think she'd remember. She gets to the parking lot of DL and gets so excited. She starts saying all the different characters! She loves it! I hope that helps a little. - NurseJennJillO  314.6 #751 7:06PM
We first took our daughter at 3 months. She is 3 now, a Premium Passholder and we are at the parks every month or so. She also knows DL well. She knows in which direction the attractions are and she knows where the restroom are. - LaPearleNoir  1448.8 #98 3:59PM
My daughter is now 8 and first went when she was 2. She can still tell you everything that happen on that first trip. - Jamesc  98.4 #3468 5:11AM
My daughter has been going since she was 1 month old. I made sure she got uses to the characters. I hate seeing kids afraid and crying with the characters and the parents are mad because they won't take pictures. Didn't want that to be us. Also have on video my daughters first steps at Disneyland. So many memories for us. As for the stroller I don't rush around the park because we are fortunate enough to have passes and come and go as we please. Sometimes I park the stroller and just walk if it's too crowded. Walt built Disneyland so it can be enjoyed by families and that's exactly what we do. I also make trips on leas crowded days so I don't have to worry about congestion. Please take full advantage of the free admission now. You will create so many memories with them even at that young of an age. My daughter likes to hear her personal Dianey bedtime stories every night. We get to relive those all the time. Hope my story and info helped. Enjoy. - DznyHeart  82.0 #3725 7:10AM
2 years old. - HotDiggityDogDaddy  1113.3 #141 7:07PM
I agree we took my son last October(He's 2) and he about going back to see Jack Skellington and the Astro Blasters all the time. - CherryTreeLane  460.0 #425 7:13PM
I know people who have kids around 2-3 that go fairly often so the kids have lots of memories of the park and they ask to go because it's part of their weekly lives. My friends who have only taken their small children once or twice? Their kids don't remember it. I think a pass is a worthwhile investment because it's something you can enjoy often and as a family. If the kiddos go often enough, they will remember it. - LaneSparrow316  847.0 #193 7:10PM
Whenever they hit 42" in height is good, not only will memorize everything, also tall enough to take most of the rides. - RapunzalK  196.2 #1949 7:14PM
my nephew first went when he was one...he did not understand or show interest. He went back after he was two and he had a blast and was able to recognize characters and enjoyed rides more.  - KissDclown  1089.3 #146 7:16PM
Our daughters first trip was her first birthday from then on we decided to get a pass to take as often as possible. She's 3 1/2 now and ask to go all the time she just started her first autograph book and enjoys it. I don't really think u can decide On when to take them based on when they can remeber because I didn't remeber when I was 1, 2, or even 3 but all the pictures r amazing!!! - MinnieMaddiesMommie  72.8 #3882 7:31PM
My son still remembers the first time he rode Haunted Mansion when he was 2 1/2 yrs old lol. - tigntink  182.2 #2128 7:34PM
I don't think it's a good idea for newborns to be out there, but 8 month old. Sure. - HotDiggityDogDaddy  1113.3 #141 7:35PM
We started taking our daughter consecutively every month since she was one. She is 2 1/2 and knows when we are at Disneyland when we exit the freeway. She asks to go on Pirates constantly. We recently took her to WDW last month and she is asking to go back! - bellaminnie  264.7 #1136 7:40PM
We took our son on his 1st birthday. I know he doesn't remember but we could tell he was having fun. I mean, it's great visual stimulation for little ones! Plus, we have all the cute pictures that I hope he will enjoy looking at as an adult. My parents have pictures of me, at about 1, and I LOVE seeing those pictures. I have one of the cheaper (if you can call a Disneyland pass cheap lol) passes and have mother/son days which can be stressful at times but I have all the lovely memories :). - kss4tink  218.0 #1671 7:41PM
My kids were both 4. They remember that trip to this day. They are 25 and 19. - sewedna  413.3 #489 10:49PM
My kids were both 3 and they remember it. - Eraf61  264.8 #1131 10:54PM
I think 3 is a perfect age. - AshleyLynn22  791.2 #209 10:54PM
My niece, Winter, turned 3 in January and asks to go to Disneyland all the time. She calls Minnie her friend and is really excited on the team because she understands where she is going. πŸ˜ƒ - Vegan7LuvsStitch  1009.3 #166 11:04PM
cute name - HandMeAChurroImmaFaint  5185.6 #17 11:05PM
Thanks. Her middle name is Monroe. I love her name. ☺ - Vegan7LuvsStitch  1009.3 #166 11:09PM
My parents took me for the first time when I was 18 months old. I don't remember anything but now I love going back and seeing the pictures from that time! - PirateQueenBriezy  308.3 #789 11:05PM
I have friends who take they're 2 -4yr olds weekly. I am always impressed with they're manners and patients. The life lessons they are learning is amazing!! I am sure they will remember these trips for years to come. - SueBayou  2019.6 #65 11:06PM
My son didn't remember too much when he was 2, when I first took him, but his face and smile were priceless - MarshaMouse  4124.2 #25 11:06PM
Aw! I am going next week with just my 5 year old. I'm leaving my 15 month old at home with grandma because I will be the only adult going.... But what u said right here is one of the main reasons I do badly want to bring my baby! - jalensmommy  150.3 #2602 12:18AM
I started taking my niece since she was 2 (last year) we have been a couple times and remembers everything and always asks to go back. I think auntie needs to take her again :) - Disneyprincess88  125.3 #2991 11:19PM
My boys first trip they were 3 1/2 and 1 1/2. They both had an amazing time and loved going back. We had gotten our first passes that trip. They looked forward to going and always had so much fun. They remembered things from trips. My daughter's first trip she was 17 days old. Before the age of 1 she was enjoying her time there and interacting with everything she saw and did. We had had passes for 4 years by the time she was born so the boys were completely enthralled by that point. My youngest is now about to turn 3 (the boys are 11 & 8 now). My daughter has been actively enjoying her trips since she as only a few months old. She's shown signs of actively remembering since around the age of 1. You don't need a pass until they turn 3. My kids have been enjoying it since we started taking them. Maybe it depends on the kids, I don't know. We've been taking our kids to Disneyland as well as places like the San Diego Comic Book Convention, concerts, and anything else since they were born. We don't like to stay home LOL They are fantastic waiting in line for things, they are polite, they behave. We get compliments all the time. Have since they were little. We don't drag them around with no concern for their needs. - Autoalice  160.6 #2462 12:06AM
The Lil One has been going since she was 2 months. She will be 4 this summer. She has been asking to go back to DL on an almost daily basis since she was 2. She def remembers. - PrincessDuckie  799.3 #207 12:18AM
I was 2 my first time, and I remember very much being traumatized on a "dark" ride in fantasyland (probably snow white). I'm still glad we went, because I also remember holding onto my dad so tight, tears streaming down my face, but knowing I was safe. I like to look at the old pictures of that day and remember my dad, I look so happy! Must have been before I went on snow white...😳😜 - bluefairy  643.3 #277 2:30AM
We waited until both our boys were 3 until their first visits. - proudcanuck  478.6 #400 2:33AM
Brody went when he was 3 months, 6 months, Disney world at 9 months, and again at 11 months, 18 months, 21 and 22 months, and ten again at 2 3/4 years old. The last trip, at 2 3/4, he rode the matterhorn and now whenever he sees a picture of Disneyland or that red he gets all excited. He sees commercials on tv and gets excited! He has never been scared on any of the attractions, except bugs life sometimes can scare him. He has known who Mickey is since he was 1 so he has remembered him always. I would say its up to you of when you want to bring them. I think it was easier with him when he was littler and wasn't walking because we could carry him around or put him on the stroller. Right now he is in a running stage so it's harder but we won't not go because of it. I just have to remind my husband he will out grow it :) so I would say after 2 is when they could remember things but it's not a guarantee they will :) good luck :) - brodysmommy  401.3 #510 3:53AM
I have a Brody too!!! Hehehehe - iheartdisneyland0922  31.7 #5332 5:19AM
What's your daughters name? I just had mine and we named her Brooklyn so they kinda go together. But I love the name Brody! It's very unusual to find the name these days, which is perfect! :) - brodysmommy  401.3 #510 8:05AM
I honestly think it depends on how much you bring them. My daughter has been going since the womb days and now is 2 1/2 and LOVES Disneyland. She was able to ride the Matterhorn maybe 6 months ago and still remembers it. :) - iheartdisneyland0922  31.7 #5332 5:12AM
I took my son at 7-8 months old and by 1 he already new it was Disneyland by the parking structure. Now that he's 2 he loves going and loves to see his favorite characters! He probably won't remember it when he's older, but those memories are some of the greatest I've had with him. I can't wait to tell him about it from the pictures I have taken, and make new memories with the ones he will remember for life! πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜„ - Jackie211  472.7 #404 7:35AM
I took my daughter a few weeks ago when she was only 5weeks old. I see nothing wrong with taking in really little. All of my kids have been going to DL since birth. I know up untill 3 it's a mommy and daddy memory and after that the littles start to make their own. But really who cares its all about making memories no matter what the age. πŸ˜„ - Arielkitten13  145.8 #2675 7:52AM
I took my kids at 2 years. We also took my granddaughter at 2. She never stopped talking about it and remember everything better then we did! - dawna  290.0 #897 7:56AM
I took my daughter at 13 months and she has been talking about "Mickey mouse's house" ever since! - lynniesue42  232.4 #1489 8:01AM
I first took my son for his second b-day, and did retain some memories a year later.
- Lelundrial  532.7 #351 3:54PM
I think it depends on the child. But for my daughter we went when she was 22 months and she still talks about it and wants to go again. It may help that I do talk to her about it when she mentions stuff and she watches a lot of the home videos \from when we went. BUT she also is good at remembering things, she remembers things I told her months ago and I don't even remember until she says these things! I think 2-3 is a good age to start. Under 3 is free anyways so what do you have to lose? - disneymommy0910  234.4 #1456 3:59PM
I started taking my daughter at 6 months old. And even though she would get excited and squeal. She didn't really grasp the magic of who is who at Disney until a year and a half. But im glad I took her when she was so young. She doesn't mind loud noisy environments, she's bot afraid of any of the rides she can go on. It's your decision but im glad I started ny daughter young. When she was a year and a half she would scream ,"Disney!!" When we entered the parking structure . - Queenof2princesses  259.6 #1177 4:02PM

http://cchealth.org/eh/retail-food/dog-law-faq.php Β  I know folks love theiri pets but I still do not think this is sanitary Β from a food perspective. See the url for CA law. Unless they provide a designated pet area outside, dogs cannot lick the plates/utensils, who cleans up after a dog accident......No pets in at a restaurant for now (service dogs are the exception). Disney is excellent with their food cleanliness in the parks per the Public health inspections. DTD does not fare as well per Retaurarant inspection. Check the Health Care Agency for the current restaurant inspections. As a Public health nurse I always check to see who is keeping clean in their kitchens. Diners beware! - Plumiegirl  8572.2 #3 10:42AM
