Folks, I present to you THE TRUTH about turkey legs at Disney Parks, the myth UNCOVERED: Turkey legs sold at Disney Parks are from REAL upper Midwestern turkeys which weigh about 40-50 lbs each leg is about 1.5 lbs. They are injected with a saltwater cure in the muscle tissue to insure absorption, then slow cooked in a smoker for about 6 hours. Disney Parks sell 2.5 Million turkey legs EACH year with 1.6 Million of them coming from the Disneyland Resort. Bottom line: they are NOT emu or ostrich legs, they are indeed Turkey legs (Source: Disney)
No matter how many facts get posted on this...they are still gross and I will still hold my breath when near one. 😂 - Sweet_Irish_Cream

And when passing anyone eating one! - msdizmaui 518.9 #223 2:00AM
I am so glad I am not the only one who feels this way! When I first started working there I used to literally gag at the sight and smell. - EeyoreGirl 98.0 #3053 11:16AM
I would eat an emu leg if that was the only meat available. I will stick with the 1.5 lb of goodness that the turkey so gracefully has given to us all who eats them. - MrFantasia2000JP 23.5 #4772 11:41AM
Here here! I absolutely hate when someone is eating one in a line with switchbacks... Uh... Yuck! - LisaMouse7531 409.1 #317 1:17PM
I can understand how nasty it would look to some while standing in line. Turkey Legs need to stay out of switchback lines and be enjoyed in Toontown to be shared with Pluto. - MrFantasia2000JP 23.5 #4772 2:50PM
I passed the Turkey leg up the last time. I guess I made people happy - E-Ticket 772.1 #128 5:24PM
I hate chicken legs and turkey legs. The whole dark meat thing makes me sick and the marrow. Shudder. And my daughter loves them both and will eat them all the way down to the bone in front of me...waving it around on purpose. Ew! - PeachKay 310.6 #556 8:02PM
I do the same thing SIC. - VeloMouseGirl 549.7 #202 8:18PM
I am not a fan of the smell or look of someone eating one. - LilSterner 2656.0 #17 9:07PM

What dummy would think they were ostrich legs? In no way are they even close to being big enough to be mistaken for an ostrich leg. - Lelundrial

Wow!! I'm so surprised at how many people don't like the turkey legs!! Do you all not eat turkey at thanksgiving as well? Just wondering... - ChadP

I don't like eating meat off the bone. I also don't enjoy all the cartilage and fat (not to mention the sodium with this particular cut), that come on the legs. I love a sliced piece of smoked turkey breast meat at Thanksgiving though. - DuffysJuju 627.4 #173 5:54PM
I might just have to eat an extra turkey leg later this week... Yummy! - proudcanuck

The parts that are not for human consumption get made into dog feed or Cow and pig feed. - MrFantasia2000JP 23.5 #4772 11:43AM
I guess they may turn the rest to Turkey ham some how. - RapunzalK 180.0 #1864 9:13PM
Wow, they inject them with saltwater 😷😱 - Spoonful_O_Sugar
436.2 #285 11:12PM
This is very common for all poultry. Most of the turkey and chicken you buy in the story is injected with saltwater. Not to mention all the yummy antibiotic injections and growth hormones that are injected into poultry while they are living ;) - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:05PM
Lol I have a weird obsession with food. I love food and love to know where all my food comes from. I can frequently be caught reading FDA food reviews, watching documentaries and catching up on the latest food outbreak. :D
I believe that people should know what they are eating and where it came from (and that they shouldn't be afraid of eating it). - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:25PM
Lol, I knew about the antibiotics and hormones, and we don't buy much deli meat specifically because of the sodium content. But I really didn't realize most of it was from salt water injections. I just told my husband and he was like, "yes, I knew that." Lol. I feel really uneducated right now. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:40PM
nope, the info ain't off this site! - DonaldMissingPants 296.2 #631 12:32AM

Yuck! I've tried it once and I was okay with it. Then I found out about how much sodium and calories it had. 2 DAYS WORTH OF SODIUM AND NEARLY ALMOST A DAY'S WORTH OF CALORIES. Phew, now that I got that out of my system... Yuck. - Ain1derland
325.5 #499 12:21PM
yea, I was shocked to read how many calories one leg has! - Bo22 331.1 #468 1:41PM
Think about all the sodium and calories in the fast food that parents give to their kids. All the sugary breakfast cereals, "fruit" snacks and "fruit" juices. So much of our food in America is over processed and full of things we "shouldn't" be eating. Just adding a dash of salt to your meal pushes your sodium level past what your body honestly needs. It's unfortunate how we eat. And it's unfortunate how delicious turkey legs are. Thankfully walking around the park and constantly drinking water helps with the large calorie and sodium intake. - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:11PM
It's true. This is really not much worse than McDonald's, Burger King, In N Out, pizza, or Chinese food. Heck, Subway sandwiches can even have a lot of sodium from the bread, cheese, meats, pickles, and salt/pepper added. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:56PM
As long as they're not in somebody's pocket I am not a hater! - SteamboatMinnie

Okay, a turkey leg in someone's pocket?! That IS gross. - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:36PM
Someone posted a pic of it awhile ago--it was disgusting, but hilarious! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:48PM
I will believe this when I believe there is real meat in the chimichanga and when that stop holding little foreign children hostage for It's A Small World! - BlueberryCrusader

Those kids aren't being held hostage. They are all the lost kids no one wanted to claim. - Lelundrial 341.0 #428 3:04PM

Are churros really made of emu? - MelodyMouse 941.9 #92 8:11PM
I eat turkey everyday almost, but for some reasons, the turkey legs gross me out. I saw this very very OLD horror movie (black and white so i think it was old) and these giant ostriches ran around attacking the world like king kong and all I can think of is that these are from some giant attacking form of a turkey. - secretagentangel

Nutritional info: over 1,000 calories, over 50 grams of fat, and over 250 mg of sodium. Bleck! - PrincessKristin

Have at it unhealthy eaters! - donnievegas 1127.5 #72 8:12PM
I've shared one with my hubby--it's not in my top 10 food list at the parks, but it wasn't as horrible as everyone jeeps saying. Knowing the nutritional info validates my feelings, though: not worth it! The sodium alone is way bad for you! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:15PM
This is not the only snack or meal in the Disney parks that is not necessarily good for you. I would put money on the fried chicken dinner being just as "gross".
It's just a yummy barbaric snack for people to share and have fun eating :) - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:17PM
Lol, I can pass on the fried chicken too. I'm not judging at all--my hubby loves them and I agree that a few bites are tasty! I would just rather spend my calories on Monte Cristos, Black Pearls, or cupcakes, lol. And they're all just as bad, if not worse! - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:27PM
And I agree: why is it socially acceptable to gnaw on a chicken leg and not a turkey leg? - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 8:29PM
Lol I have always wondered that. I have a food allergy so I can't have the fried chicken, but if I could....I would be noming on that as well! - MortiMouse 118.8 #2754 8:34PM
i'll pass and thanks for the info - disneygal
