More Trivia: In the mid 1960's, when the novelty of the Submarine Voyage started to diminish, Disneyland executives attempted to revitalize it by stocking the lagoon with live "mermaids" in bikini tops. The gimmick didn't last long, and it had unexpected consequences: young male guests took to jumping into the lagoon and swimming out to have their photos taken with the maidens, and several of the performers became ill from the chemicals in the water.
