Great, what about those 1000 non-military that could use a job? Guess they are just out of luck. - Lelundrial

I know its tough for everyone but its.just sad to see a person who became that 1% to serve, struggle after his tour of honorable service. If they did it for us its the.least we can do for them. (I say honorable because yes there are bad eggs out there....and.u dont qualify for these things if u had less than honorable service) - Jfigg23 254.7 #967 11:52AM
Maybe they should go enlist... - cynDOLEwhip 744.1 #137 12:16PM
As a Marine wife, I know firsthand how tough it is for service members to find a job. Most never went to college, and never had a job before joining the Military. That was their life. We have an advantage because we have time to further our education and branch out. My husband doesn't because he chose to serve our country. - CMshelleybee 428.1 #294 12:34PM
I do agree that it's tough to find a job, but for the men and women that only know the Military lifestyle, it's even harder. Adjusting to the civilian lifestyle is extremely difficult!! I'm thrilled that Disney is doing this :) - CMshelleybee 428.1 #294 12:36PM
Judging from the fresh crop MWers I'm noticing that have been recently hired as CMs, I'd say they are hiring non-military folks too. This is such a downer on a nice post..... - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #108 2:38PM
Well said Shelbey! :) - PrincessMacy 503.0 #236 3:17PM
Well the Armed services is always looking for a few good men and women, and there are thousands of jobs waiting to be filled. And I am sure that Disney will hire non Military if they go apply. God bless you Bob Iger. Semper Fi. - splashphotoCM 880.9 #101 6:30PM
As someone who is currently unemployed, I think it's wonderful they are doing this. As much as I want to be working again, I would gladly give a job to a veteran before me. They have put in service to our country that I can never repay them for. - Mimmy 1405.6 #57 7:03PM
why on earth was the meeting in Kansas city Mo? its gross out there - Dave

Cheaper airfare? Maybe someone saw the price of fuel and decided to use their frequent flyer miles. - LaneSparrow316 846.9 #108 3:05PM
Near Marceline, MO. Might be observing the Walt's Main Street? - dlmickeymouseCM 2350.4 #28 3:14PM
Kansas City has Disney history. Walt Disney spent some time in Kansas City. Kansas City is where Walt launched his cartoon career and attended the Kansas City Art Institute. Good stuff. - onezerohero 147.2 #2328 3:23PM
One more thing, the plan to hire 1,000 military veterans has a program tagline: Heroes Work Here. Pretty cool. - onezerohero

Home Depot hires reservists, spouses and veterans. Also, veterans can get a federal job. My roommate works for the feds and she was telling me how they are hiring all these veterans. Some of them even already have a job. - Lelundrial 341.4 #429 11:25AM
Hey Lelundrial, then why don't you go complain to Home Depot about their hiring practices rather than bashing Disney on a Disney related site? Durrrrr...... - DuffysJuju 627.4 #173 6:51PM
Sounds like a good plan to me!! Thank you Disney!

I think this is an awesome way to thank those who have given so much. I know first hand how difficult the transition to civilian life can be through my ex-husband's experience. Add to that a sagging economy and that transition becomes even more difficult. Thank you Disney! - VeloMouseGirl

Iger also did a brief tribute to Steve Jobs, who was once a Disney board member and the company's largest single shareholder with 137 millions shares (after close today valued at over $6 billion). - onezerohero
