I recently went to a meeting here by where and a guest speaker came and showed us a video about Disney princesses. The guest speaker said that Disney princesses may be setting a "bad example" on children. She used the case of beauty and the beast. That Belle stayed with an abusive husband and didn't do anything about it. I personally think that's nonsense because kids are too young to notice that yet. But what are your opinions on this? I will try to find the link of the video to share it with you guys.

That is so ridiculous. If anything, the princesses show a girl how to be classy!! *and some girls more than others are in desperate need of a princess lesson* - michelIe  422.1 #309 11:56PM
Lol. So true. - MariaR  170.2 #2038 12:00AM
I actually took a communication criticism class in college. They showed a video very similar to the one you describe. They totally ripped on Disney using different princesses, Belle, Snow white. I am so frustrated I did my final paper on why Disney is so great and the great things the princesses have taught us! One of the best papers I wrote! - dhBelle04  275.5 #791 11:50PM
We assume our kids our looking for that type of terrible stuff when all they see is something amazing and whimsical. We as parent are the example. If we start telling our kids Disney is a bad example what else is there for them? - marinepuma  226.6 #1313 11:51PM
I'm all for the Princesses. All my daughter seems to take away from the movies are a more creative imagination and songs...lots & lots of songs. 😃 - MariaR  170.2 #2038 11:55PM
You look hard enough on Youtube and even the nicest things turn evil (and vice- versa). There's a critic for everyone and everything, and everyone thinks they're an expert. - Timsierramist  300.8 #621 12:05AM
Some people just interpret things too far. It's fantasy people. - CadaverousPallor  264.2 #901 12:43AM
what fun would life be for us if there were never subjects to debate? philosophers debated since the beggening of time, about something or another. it is what moral, decent human beings do. now, as far as having to debate anything Disney related??? i see no point, but someone else does. they can have the puzzle, i'll enjoy the art. - littleoysterz  210.4 #1516 2:01AM
*by where I live - PrincessMe  6.2 #9110 11:33PM
Yup exactly! And it showed that looks don't matter(: - PrincessMe  6.2 #9110 11:42PM
WHAT? Beast never abused Belle! I don't really like Ariel though.. i feel as if she's a tad spoiled - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #648 11:44PM
That's just it though. As an adult she may come off as spoiled but to a child it's different. Growing up ariel was my favorite! As far as I was concerned, she was just curious and wanted to learn more about the world and found out the hard way to listen to her parent. That's why I love Disney and think it's so successful. They aren't just movies for kids. Children see one thing, and they are still entertaining in completely different ways for adults. I took a psych class in college that tried to rip Disney apart too. I got defensive and we had a debate for a good hour and a half the continued into the next class. Ultimately, regardless of the message it sends, it's still your job as a parent to make sure your child is getting good messages. You can't blame disney - Poisen_Ivy  267.7 #869 12:04AM
i like ariel (not my favorite).. but that one line in part of your world "I want more" just sounds a bit strange.. no offense to ariel or any of her fans. I love the movie though with some of the best music! - DonaldMissingPants  296.2 #648 1:16AM
Totally lame. Yup - the princesses are a bad example but we should all worship Michael Vick. - Nickelnorm  101.4 #3058 12:02AM
And Chris brown. - ladylikesdisney  926.7 #96 12:02AM
Yeah, talk about going back to the abuser... - cynDOLEwhip  745.3 #138 12:04AM
Right....some people just got tunnel vision - marinepuma  226.6 #1313 12:04AM
If anything disney improved our fairytales instead of just having the Grimm tales we now have happy endings. Some people just need to ruin everything, even disney movies for children. Yes our children are impressionable, but its the parents the set the example, not a movie. - tinkertarna  6.2 #9138 12:05AM
I must confess, I kinda see her point. The last time I watched it, I remember thinking to myself that beast and gaston are remarkably similar characters at first. Lady runs off with a tramp. Ariel hates her life so bad she sells her voice to get away. HOWEVER, I grew up on all these movies, and managed to end up happily married to a prince charming. Kids usually learn from tv what they see reemphasized in the home. - LittleAprilShowers  500.8 #241 12:41AM
The beast was lonely and he wanted company that is way he kept Bell's dad and Bell just trade places with her dad! That is not being abusive ! - mine_mine_mine  44.4 #3943 1:25AM
