Here's another update for those of you driving over the grapevine. Right now they are escorting vehicles over the grapevine. There is more bad weather expected tonight and tomorrow. Sorry for the bad news.
Marvin Gaye is currently stuck in my head because of your post. Thank you. - SoloSiyoNqoba

There's still a way to go around the Grapevine. You have to go around the mountains through Tehachapi. It takes another 90-ish minutes but it will get you there. - LaneSparrow316

Hmmm, I've never driven it that late--probably the latest I've been on it is 9 or 10. Will you be driving alone? - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 6:45AM
My bf will be with me. I'm going to buy cables today and aim for the 5 and take it really slow. If we cant make it through then it wasnt meant to be. Thanks so much for the help:) - supertracy 435.6 #286 7:29AM
Hope it all goes smoothly for you! It's much easier if you have company in the car :) - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 7:35AM
doula- at night was scary for me, windy roads but it was raining last time I used it so just be cautious. - mochamistie 272.8 #803 8:11AM
I take 101 down from San Jose all the time. It's very easy with nothing much to do. Granted I stop in pismo every trip down, but it's easy - Slotherini

How much time does it add to go around the grapevine? We may have to do the same thing if there not allowing any cars to go through. - cinderella5

It's about a 2 hour detour - PrinceTeaJack 786.3 #119 8:18AM
But if they're detouring all the cars at the bottom of the grade, expect it to go a little more slowly. - Spoonful_O_Sugar 436.2 #285 9:06AM
It depends on where they're sending you. It can be a while. For those afraid of the Grapevine, you can always detour east or west. West puts you on 101, east is a little more interesting... - ThatKimberly 335.2 #450 9:20AM
I just checked and as of 7pm last night all lanes were open through the grapevine. I am about to leave so I will update you guys on how the drive goes in about 4 hours. :D Wish me luck. - Jillian
