Hey all! I'm looking for some opinions/advice and preferences for shoes.. I have some older (barely used) Nike crosstrainers and when I used them for fast paced walking, my feet were dying. Is there a type of shoe that is better for fast walking?(lighter or heavier or crazy bells and whistles) thoughts please?

My podiatrist had recommended New Balance to me. Go in to a store and have them tell you if you over pronate. That could be part of it. - 415beachgirl  469.0 #259 7:17AM
I went to RoadRunner Sports and had a custom fitting for insoles and shoes. Best $200.00 I've spent in a long time. - vernswifevickie  348.6 #416 8:27AM
I dont have $200 to spend on shoes or insoles :( - justcallmeKP   85.8 #3198 10:19AM
You can also do the fitting, skip the custom insoles, let them recommend the proper shoe for you and then purchase from the outlet. The location I went to had a regular showroom and an outlet section. The custom fitting is free. - vernswifevickie  348.6 #416 7:45PM
I also went to Roadrunner to be analyzed and fitted. I got asics and they're pretty comfortable but not perfect. I had a lot of problems at first because I kept twisting my right ankle. I'm starting to think that running and walking form (the way you move your body and land on your feet) is even more important than the shoes. I haven't hurt my ankle badly since I starting landing mid foot while running. I would recommend trying out different kinds of shoes until you find the most comfortable ones for you. Lately I'm finding that Reebok fits my feet best but I'm still looking around for the perfect shoe. - TamiPoppins  39.7 #4004 10:29AM
Thanks! Glad I'm not alone in all this. I appreciate everyones input - justcallmeKP   85.8 #3198 4:54PM
I got fitted for Brooks running which is also good for fast walking. The guy said if u can't afford a lot just try to get shoes that are 1/2 bigger to allow room for when your feet expand and something that feels like you have no shoes on! Hope that helps a little. Good luck! - NingyMouse  378.4 #359 7:15PM
Thanks! That helps - justcallmeKP   85.8 #3198 7:57PM
There are a LOT of variables...your stride, your form, your pronation, your bone structure, the build of the shoe, etc. Everyone always recommends New Balance, but I've tried three or four pairs and none of them were comfortable. What works for me might not work for you. The absolute best thing to do is go to a podiatrist and have custom insoles made--then, the shoe is not really important because the insole will put your foot in the right position. I've had mine for 8 years! Though my parents' insurance covered it at the time, I would pay out of pocket for new ones if I needed to because they really do change the way I walk. (I have bone structure issues, though). Second-best thing you could do is visit a specialty store, such as Road Runner or Feet Fleet, and have a fitting: they will put you on a treadmill and look at your stride to determine the most comfortable shoe for you. Lastly, you might make an appointment with a running coach--he/she will be able to help you correct your form. In any case, PLEASE try not to worry too much about cost: this is an investment in your health. $200, while it sounds like a lot all at once, is a drop in the bucket when you consider that it will help you be more comfortable and stick with your workouts. - Spoonful_O_Sugar  436.2 #285 8:16AM
