There are a LOT of variables...your stride, your form, your pronation, your bone structure, the build of the shoe, etc. Everyone always recommends New Balance, but I've tried three or four pairs and none of them were comfortable. What works for me might not work for you. The absolute best thing to do is go to a podiatrist and have custom insoles made--then, the shoe is not really important because the insole will put your foot in the right position. I've had mine for 8 years! Though my parents' insurance covered it at the time, I would pay out of pocket for new ones if I needed to because they really do change the way I walk. (I have bone structure issues, though). Second-best thing you could do is visit a specialty store, such as Road Runner or Feet Fleet, and have a fitting: they will put you on a treadmill and look at your stride to determine the most comfortable shoe for you. Lastly, you might make an appointment with a running coach--he/she will be able to help you correct your form. In any case, PLEASE try not to worry too much about cost: this is an investment in your health. $200, while it sounds like a lot all at once, is a drop in the bucket when you consider that it will help you be more comfortable and stick with your workouts. -
