Ugh. So I know what I want to do with my life and have but I haven't wanted to admit it cause I was hoping to find something else I loved that wouldn't break me. I want to go to Photography school but its so expensive. Is it worth going into that debt? I've never been good at school so I was trying to avoid community college or a university but is it worth paying so much to do so?

My other half wanted to go to photograpy school. But it was a tough decision because I know a few people who have this as a career and they are struggling because there are no jobs for it, and it doesn't pay that well but it's a passion of yours I say GO FOR IT. If that's what's in your heart you can make anything possible. Instead of going to a school like the Art Institute(don't get me wrong it's a great school) , i would reccomend going to a community first.its cheaper and youll get a taste of if its really what you want to do. But if not it would be a fantastic hobby. :) Good Luck !! - BubbaLoo  826.5 #112 12:20AM
I work in federal student aid and if you have any questions on funding your education please DM me! I work primarily with colleges and universities and can help you with determining whether or not a particular school has a program that would benefit you. I agree with Bubbaloo...a comm. college is often the best choice. Not just financially but many of them do have great photography programs. - Gia  794.1 #122 12:38AM
Yes!! And they way I look at it, no matter what school you end up going to we learn the same materials that a 90,000$ school you give you. It may take more time but they longer your in school the longer you have to learn and take your time to study your practice :) - BubbaLoo  826.5 #112 1:16AM
I say check and see what your local community college has to offer. Do your FAFSA and see how much financial aid you can receive to help you out :) I personally had a blast in community college and when I transferred to a university. Take a look at all your options and don't limit yourself :) - SkellyMouse  501.3 #240 1:20AM

Try talking to a local photographer and see if you can do an internship type of thing a lot of people are looking for free help these days...if you maybe assist at weddings ect. They will teach you their knowledge along the way and in the meantime take some business courses and go from there...some of the best photographers I have seen never had "formal" training. - yellowtonka  237.7 #1162 8:54AM
College is totally different from HS since you really focus on studying the things you are interested, not a ton of subjects. If its what you really want to do and you are passionate about it, I say do it. Check into lots of different schools to find the one that best fits you. Sometimes the "best photography college" might not be the best choice for you. I went to a smaller college but still got a great education. In fact I got opportunities I wouldn't have at that bigger more well known school because there were less students in my program. So I guess what I am saying is don't be discouraged, you will find the right fit! - Pixarprincess  531.5 #219 8:55AM
Except for general ed classes. Those are exactly like high school. Love your advice though, sometimes the "best" schools aren't really the best. - ladylikesdisney  926.7 #96 1:20AM
