Ha! That reminds me of when I debated getting one for way too long. I'm the type that will do my research online and take WAY too long to decide on options and quality etc... and I DID do my homework regarding the throw, keystone, color, resolution, Lumens, etc.. I mean I was up to almost getting this $2300 projector, and took months of talking myself into then out of it I mean I thought not just projector, but theater seats, the right reflective screen, ambient light solutions, ceiling mount, etc.
Then one day I see this "beginner" Optoma 720p projector on Woot.com with decent specs, a referb, and only $600! I said "what the hell, I'll upgrade later!".
So here it is 3 years later and we still LOVE this thing and I would not only recommend ANY projector over a huge LCD any day, but I'd convince you that no you don't "need" 1080p (but do it if you can afford it), fancy screens and special furniture. Buy it. Put it on a wire closet shelf like I did, attach a nice Bose desktop PC speaker set w subwoofer, plug in your Apple TV, Roku, Xbox and TiVo and just GO FOR IT! Never look back. It's the best video purchase I've ever made. My family and friends love stopping by for movie nights and even on a bed sheet, it looks great! :-) -
