If you stayed at the Disneyland hotel before, did you use the monorail for getting back and forth? I'm trying to decide between the Grand and the Disneyland hotel for our next trip. Our daughter will be 18 months. I tried searching for reviews and couldn't find any on this. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks πŸ˜ƒ

Keep in mind that if you go to Magic Mornings, the Monorail isn't open that early (at least when we went) so you'll end up walking anyway. But it really is not far and I love walking DTD anyway. :) - Melliott  301.2 #905 10:43AM
Agreed, I also just found it slightly more irritating taking the monorail in the morning. For mid-day stops to the hotel it wasn't as bad. - Lelundrial  656.3 #304 10:54AM
I stayed at the DL hotel in Dec. and the monorail was running for magic morning. They checked our hotel keys there. But I prefer walking down main street for magic morning. It may not run every magic morning day though, this was during a very busy time at the park. - tballzz  558.2 #362 10:56AM
The Grand is the best. In Nov. it was only $16/night more than DLH - Mouse4life  1679.6 #100 10:35AM
Yea, I have been looking at the prices and it doesn't seem to be that much more per night than the DL hotel. Especially since we have an AP. I am sure it does depend on the month, too. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:40AM
Yes the Grand is Grand - Thegrumpyone  113.1 #3374 10:43AM

We used the monorail part of the time when we stayed at DL. If you like walking Main St, like I do, you miss out on that when taking the monorail into the park. The Grands location cannot be beat. I still prefer the DL hotel better, feels more magical to me.  - Jewelz  557.9 #363 10:20AM
I was wondering about that. I do love walking main street. We also use a stroller so I'm wondering if it will be a hassle to have to fold it everytime we use the monorail. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:22AM
Oh, that is something to consider. Its been a while since we have used strollers. I think we took the monorail out of the park more than we used it to enter the park. - Jewelz  557.9 #363 10:24AM
Yea, I would probably use it more for going back to the hotel when we are all tired. Thank you for your help! - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:31AM

I prefer the grand. It's much closer. The monorail is not conveinaint with a stroller and the walk is still long after you disembark in DTD - Twitterpated  273.0 #1138 10:25AM
I found it was a much easier walk with a stroller and cheaper to stay at one the cheap hotels on sounth harbor than to stay at DL hotel because I can't afford to stay at the grand everytime. - Twitterpated  273.0 #1138 10:30AM
Yea, weve always stayed off property. It is definitely cheaper. I am excited to stay on property! - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:35AM
I prefer the grand but if you stay at DL hotel it is easier to walk then take the monorail. It's not that much farther and to take the monorail you have to fold up your stroller which can be a major pain sometimes with little ones. - akpoppins  263.8 #1224 10:28AM
To further this I would walk in and take the monorail back at the end of the day you are tired and if you are near it it's easier than the long walk back to the hotel. - akpoppins  263.8 #1224 10:37AM

Stayed at the Grand and you could walk with a stroller no problem. Disneyland hotel is a bit farther. - Krissy8  3.4 #31286 10:31AM
I always stay at the super 8 on katella, saves us so much money since I'm a big foodie and spend so much on food while we are there. And on plushes lol. Its a ten minute walk too! - madsdad  1868.2 #92 10:32AM
We like to stay here too! Not a bad walk, WAY cheaper and the breakfast is nice before we head to the parks! - cynDOLEwhip  1175.5 #148 10:40AM
I feel ya! We always spend at least 5 days in the park and only go once a yea (maybe twice) rand we love food too. However, we pretty much spend 10-12 hours at the park everyday with the no breaks to the hotel, so it might be nice to be able to rest and have a shorter walk. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:45AM
We stayed at the DL Hotel 2 months ago and we had a stroller.  We took the monorail a couple times. The stroller certainly can be a hassle because you have to have it folded and if you use it as rolling storage like we do that adds to the hassle. Since it was the holidays we also found ourselves waiting 15-20 minutes for the monorail. We found it was usually quicker to just walk thru DTD and go in the front entrance (and not miss Main St.) Also, if you are going to CA you can cut thru the Grand and use the guest entrance since you are a guest of the Disneyland Resort.

If you decide to stay at the DL Hotel, and time it right, the monorail is fun. If not, both hotels are just a few minutes walk to both pa - BaseballMickey_CM  7581.2 #11 10:33AM
I've stayed in the Grand twice and it's a beautiful hotel. It's perfect walking distance to both parks and the rooms are really nice and comfortable? but in my opinion I think it's overpriced to stay there. I've stayed at the Disneyland before but haven't in a while, but when we did stay there we would just walk to the main gate most of the time. It's not too bad of a walk and we liked seeing all the people coming in. So the Grand is good distance, just expensive, and Disneyland is cheaper, but a little more far away. - JoeDownTheRabbitHole  402.2 #561 10:35AM
Good to know. I am definitely leaning towards the grand. - Fanatic4Disney  268.5 #1180 10:38AM

We always stay at dl hotel. We rent strollers at dl. So for us we just drop off out stroller by the monorail entrance and take the monorail back. For me it beats walking. - TheShow  214.9 #1804 10:55AM

I don't think the morning trip into the parks is very beneficial. Especially for early entry, as it isn't running. It's great for the mid day trips back to the hotels for naps and lunch. It was far better staying at the DL Hotel when it had it's own station. But the walk is about the same from either hotel to the DTD station. I like the DLH, but I'm a little nostalgic, I loved the garden Villas.

We are also thinking of staying at the grand in June, with our then 21 month old. I too hate folding up the stroller, and I remember them doing something cute in the evenings by the fireplace, some kind of story time? - FrozenMommy  58.0 #4478 11:17AM
